Default Trunk won't open...

i cant get my trunk open anymore. i have a 2000 rs, and the release latch is just loose and wont open the trunk. i can hear it moving in the trunk, but nothing happens when i pull it. i also don't have a key to my trunk, i dont know why but i never got one when we bought the car. i just wish it used the ignition key any idea on what i should do to get the trunk open? i guess ill just have to take it to the dealership

Sounds like you have a valet key. Go to a dealer and have a new master key made.

From what I remember on my 00 RS it does take the ignition key and it sounds as if your safety latch is flipped, its on the latch itself in the trunk. Its a little silver switch type thing that just needs to be flipped.

Sounds like you're talking about the remote release lever next to the driver seat. Go to the trunk and open it with a key. Then take the little lever inside and move it to the opposite side. It's a vallet mode switch that disables the cable operated openner. It was one of the only things that I ever brought my car to the dealer for. I was sure the cable was broken and the tech knew right away what the problem was. Nice 8 second fix for $0.

wish i could, my ignition key doesnt fit the trunk lock. it opened fine until i picked up a friend of mine and he put his stuff in the trunk, once we got to where we went, it wouldnt open anymore. im guessing something on the inside hit that safetly latch or something, so now ive got no way to get into my trunk. this sucks, but ill get it fixed

Do the RS's have a trunk passthru? If you're skinny and it has one of those child safety handles you may be able to open it that way.

The valet key should just be a standard flat metal key (no plastic grip) and should not be able to lock or unlock the glovebox.. oh wait.. we don't have locking gloveboxes do we

step 1: remove bottom of rear seat
Step 2: remove top of rear seat
Step 3: open trunk from inside
Step 4: Flip the lever down (away from "cancel")
Step 5: check it a few times before you re-install the seat

ya know what I find funny on these message boards (rs25 and nabisco)? That right when I do something, like the next day i'll find 5 new threads on it. For instance, yesterday I couldn't get my trunk to open with the release either, so after fiddling around I found that little lever. Then I find a post on RS25 later in the day about the same thing. Now, today, I find this thread.

Same thing happened when I snapped off a fog light bolt the other day. Come on the boards and found 2 threads on people that had done the same thing and were getting bolts from HD, even got me the thread size/pitch/etc.

The RS trunks have a release lock that won't allow you to open the car from the inside. You must have tripped the lock lever accidentally. I did this once with my L.
