So I got in a wreck...
Ive done a lot of research thus far and my only concern is if my vehicles worth will cover my loan amount of 20k. Details to come tonight when I get home. The car is in great shape and is a 2008 premium wrx model minus the nav system. Has a cat back exhaust and enkei rims. Anybody have any experience here and willing to help? Sorry for formatting and lack of details sent from my mobile.

I slid through an intersection after yesterdays snow fall and t boned a kia suv doing 15 through 25. The reason I think the damage looks so bad is because I hit his tire and the axel didnt give any to my front end. My front end was pushed in pretty bad, radiator pump touching my engine block almost, give 2 or 4 inches. Thank god nobody was seriously hurt. My bags didnt even deploy, weird? |

Sorry about your wreck
but 15-25mph may not have had enough of an impact to deploy the air bags. sounds like the car's crumple zone absorbed most of the hit. |

Glad you're okay, man. I don't really know how much percentage of repair that is compared to your car's initial worth to give any input. I hope everything lands in your favor, though.
They'll probably say something like, "Driving too fast for conditions", though. Wouldn't surprise me, even if you were under the speed limit. |

Gonna agree, looks totaled! Also hope you have GAP. Looks like it was more of a drivers side corner impact, maybe not enough of a front hit to deploy bags??? Glad your ok.

wow, more carnage. Nasty carnage too.
I am sorry about your car, truly. Not going to poke at you too much but reading your original two posts... You said you slid through an intersection***8230;.were you going too fast? Were you trying to make a light? Were you texting? Or on the phone? Were you not paying attention? Are you just learning how to drive in snow conditions? Are you new to Alaska? Give us some clues. These cars are MADE for this type of weather. The whole AWD thing going on, excellent brakes and visibility, impeccable handling, decent stock tires***8230;..I just don't know***8230;hoping you will disclose. I am truly not trying to bust your balls, just trying to get you to think about it. One of the reasons I enjoy the whole ICE RACING thing is that the pace and conditions out there are much more demanding. Practicing skills out there in race conditions makes public road vehicle operations in winter a lot easier. When I drive in Anchorage traffic or the Seward or Glenn Highway everything is like slow motion and sedate. I know my braking points, I can handle lane transitions and plan my moves far in advance. My vision is more aware, I "see" traction on the road surface and can spot trouble areas more easily. My car control is mere second nature. Some of the others here all worried about tearing their cars up***8230;.believe me***8230;.the risk is there but it is nothing compared to what I see going on daily on the roads here in town. You folks should all give this a second thought. We have not had near the carnage some of you guys have experienced in the past week. |

My biggest concern is what they will value the car at if they total it, I still owe 20k on it without GAP insurnace. I hope so! There's actually a few good WRXes on the market. That or seeing as I deploy in three months I might just wait till I get back to put a hefty amount down. Quote:
I think it was a combination of factors. This is my first time driving in winter weather quiet as bad as this, combined with all the crap I had on my mind that day, how horrible the roads were on base and off, and I want to say my ABS didn't quiet do it's job. I've had troubles, two weeks of having the car that is, with it turning off randomly while I'm driving in the past, but I didn't take time to notice specifically before this occurred. I wasn't driving negligent at all, just a combination of a lot of crappy factors.t I thank you for the warning, advice, and wisdom I will truly heed it. |

ABS doesn't reduce stopping distance on ice. It actually has the potential to increase it. It DOES allow the driver to maintain directional control.

First off I'd like to thank everyone here for the well wishes and being so understanding, to be honest I was kind of expecting to get bashed hardcore. To have such a knowledgeable and open community is really amazing. Thank you all so much! This experience has hurt my pride a lot and I'm sure it will affect my finances sustainably as well, thankfully I'll just have to get by another couple of months before I deploy and can level out during that if this is a big ordeal.
If anybody has any more questions I'd be more than happy to answer them and share this experience with you guys who haven't had an accident. It's a really scary moment in a 21 year old guys life, and I'd assume anybody for that matter! And I'm sure a lot, if not all of you, can gain a something from my misfortune! But I do have a few major questions if anybody has experience with this. My biggest concern is that Geico will choose to total the car and not appraise it's worth accurately, or more importantly to the 20,129 I owe on the loan still. Having not made one payment and gotten it two weeks ago for a pretty good deal I would like to think this would make the value of the car clear, but that's probably just my wishful thinking. The car is a 2008 WRX Premium model minus the NAV package, enkei rims, a cat back exhaust, tinted rear windows, a brand new heated wind shield, and a premium after market sound package. Over all it's in pretty good shape for a '08. I'd rate it as very good on a KBB scale, only because of a few small cigarettes burns in the interior and little scratches on the arm rest and such. Actually...I believe that's my only major concern, I kind of hope they total it as long as it comes out to equal the amount I owe. I know this car will never be the same after these kind of damages. Who would of thought 15-25 MPH could have caused so much damage to a car. Also is there a timeline the agent has to help me? My agent was saying she couldn't get to look at the car until next Tuesday. The wrecked just happened yesterday, is one week to even start the adjustment and claims process considered acceptable in this industry? |

Holy crap, I'm sorry, that really is amazing how bad it looks. I know I got way more from insurance for my lancer than I ever could have sold it for. Depending how many miles you have on it, it looks like you should be good. If you can get any documentation for the aftermarket parts, even tires, you can try to get those reimbursed as well.
Edit: You mention the windshield, if YOU just paid for that, you should be able to add that on also I think. |

Sounds like you might eat the difference. Hence the reason banks offer Gap. Instead of going with NADA. Check Craiglist and the used car lots around town and see what 2008 WRXs with similar options and miles run for here in Alaska. That might net you a higher price. I did that when my Tacoma was totaled out a few years back.

She has-----had....god that makes me sad to type haha, a little over 48k on her. I looked up the same model with equal or less options all around the US (only three in the area one 2007, 2008, and 2009 each) and I got anywhere from 19k to 22k. The very similiar models were somewhere in the middle, I hope this is what I end up getting.

Oh yeah. Also got more money because of the aftermarket autostart, intake, exhaust and fairly new tires.
