Default Visconti Tuning - 2015 WRX vs 2015 STI

Finally got a chance to put a 2015 WRX on the dyno and compare it with it's big brother, the STi

Broke the wideband yesterday but similar to the other Subaru's, the WRX stays in closed loop for a while...Air Fuel is 11.8 after.

Best part about the SubaruDIT is it has a factory wideband in it!!

Subaru direct injection turbo its the new motor used in the 2015 wrx and 2014+ forester xt that shares the same style direct fuel injection as the brz/frs.

I'm not allowed to comment on that.

But keep a eye on this thread and my FXT thread I'm making later today

Thanks for doing these pulls and posting the results. I have two questions:

1) Were these runs back-to-back with both cars up to operating temps, etc?
2) What was the mileage on each car, and were they both broken in using the same methods?

Thanks

It is not the same exact as the brz, subaru used toyotas engineered di system with their port system. This di system and the one found in the fxt is all theirs.

1 - The runs weren't on the same day, both up to operating temp
2 - STi had 500 miles on it, WRX had 126 miles on it

The results are similar to what car and driver or road and track found

Numbers corrected or uncorrected?
Temp, humidity, pressure could come into play if the numbers are uncorrected STD vs. SAE.
STD hp numbers would increase with better air.

But it's nice to see the STi actually makes more HP than the WRX. Lots of rumors and reports of WRXs making similar numbers to the STi on the dyno.

Everything was apples to apples on both dyno runs.

WRX Spools up faster, and the STI makes more power, not much.

Big difference no one has discussed is the WRX is 100% happy, zero knock.. where I've seen several STis knock during their baselines.

SubaruDIT ftw

Interesting you mention that, when others reported getting significant heat soak and going limp due to knock when doing 4th gear pull on the wrx, resulting in those crazy looking epileptic plots posted in the other threads.

I have good airflow on this dyno.. the STi knocks because it's over advanced, the SubaruDIT however isn't, even when the IAM is at 1.0.. At least that's what i've seen.

So once again the WRX has a much lower drive train loss than the STi. Neat.

That is common senses, less moving parts, less energy wasted...more efficient. It just wont have the grip, tractions, the handlings like the STI, especially in rally

You say this, but then looking at other people doing dyno runs, the WRX tune looks choppy.

Not quite. Road and track found the STi making 247whp peak vs the WRX's 223whp peak.

R&T's performance numbers are congruent with the 2014 STi making their dyno numbers slightly inflated.

Their peaks are also 24whp apart, whereas your peaks are about 10whp apart.

Also, if your dyno numbers are correct, then the STi should be performing right under the common performance of the everyday stage 2, which they don't.

And with regards the the 2015 WRX's whp; your dyno shows them making last years WRX/STi numbers if not a little more, yet they are nearly a full second slower to 60.

And here is the proverbial nail in your coffin. This car made 303whp with a downpipe and EL headers. Yet your makes 15whp more with less.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2616821

http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-revi...aru-wrx-vs-sti

Dyno's are tools that is it. The proof is in the pudding. And the empirical evidence that supports the new STi having the same HP as its predecessor is in their extremely similar acceleration and quarter mile times. Even quarter mile times can be skewed, like that uncle phil guy who got in 09 wrx into the 12's (supposedly 100% stock).

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1888473

I don't like high reading dyno's. It makes too many bench racers turn into actual racers thinking their car has another 50bhp more than it really does.

and FYI, the road and track dyno comparison back to back is congruent with Subaru's claim of 268hp vs 305. Your dyno run isn't.

Yes your right a dyno is only a tool.

The 2015 dynosheet I posted shows that it performs just like every other 08+ STi that's we've seen before.

Anything can be skewed, but that's not what I'm doing here.. Ive posted very clear results / gains.

Also have track times that back it up.

Not really. It is 5 speed vs. 6 speed. The shift points. If you stay in 2nd you can achieve last years numbers. If you shift, you will not. A little misleading.

A few things:

2015 WRX making similar power to 2014 STI doesn't mean that they will run the same times. A second slower can be due to gearing, and difficulty of the actual shift. You can't bang gears on a cable actuated shifter the way you bang gears on a rod/linkage shifter. A car with less or the same power, but with better shift action and better ratios will be quicker.

Comparison between The Shop's 303whp '15 STi w/EL headers vs this 319whp one without. The Shop's car also baselined at 204whp on their dyno, where as this one baselined at 268whp on the dyno Visconti used. The Shop's car picked up more power with the EL header than Visconti tuned car without EL header, no?
