05' Legacy 2.5i and Outback 2.5i - Non Turbo Tranny?
Quick question: I know the 05' LGT and Outback XT got the better transmissions and the XT has the 4.44 instead of the 4:11. So what about the regular 05' Legacy and Outback? It looks like the Legacy 2.5i has a 3.90 FD and the Outback 2.5i has a 4.11 FD with these ratios.
1st 3.454 2nd 2.062 3rd 1.448 4th 1.088 5th .871 I wonder what parts bin subaru dug in to make these? Any ideas as to what gears they used, and what other tanny this could be diguised as? It seems it would have the newer syncro design and what not. I think the 2.5 RS has this tranny as well. I wonder what kind of gears they have as far as strength or gear width. I would think Subaru would just use what they have and I think the dual mass flywheel is used on the turbo model to soak up some shock going to the gears to help them survive the higher power. I've seen it listed on cars101 as the turbo model having a "Heavy Duty dual mass flywheel" and also listing the 2.5i as having a standard transmission and the turbo model having a "reinforced 5 speed". The outback 2.5i is listed as having a 4.11 final drive and a limited slip rear end also. I'm just curious because i can pick up one of the Outback 2.5i trannys with 20K miles and the matching 4.11 Limited slip rear diff for dirt, I'm talking dirt cheap. Is it even worth messin with? |
