How Should I Set My Rev Limiter?
I just recently purchased a new 05 STI and I am wondering what would be the best setting for my Rev Limiter? Also, when do I get the most torque? It feels around ~3-5 rpms. I want a setting that gives me the most torque and acceleration for my car so I can finally pull that 0-60 under 5 seconds. Any suggestions?

You should be most concerned on learning to launch vs. where to set your limiter. Launching takes practice. Go read the Shifting FAQ as it has launching tips inside it. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=587096
After you learn to launch, then run it to redline in every gear until you get to 60. |

rofl.. *sighs*
i don't own an sti nor do i know much about the rev limiter setting, but i believe you can only set the "warning" light, not the actual limiter itself. correct me if im wrong. as for settings... you have to go get tuned, preferably with mods. this isn't a high-end paintball gun, you dont just play with the settings manually to make it perform better. the stock sti is rated at 4.7 secs 0-60 mph... that's with a launch. |

In stock form you can just set the warning. I'm sure there are other ways to change your redline, I use my AP (to lower it)

Set the rev limiter to 8000k rpms
About the launching, it has nothing what your setting the rev limiter at at all. As somebody said above people set it at where they should shift while they are racing so you dont "screw the pooch." As far as launching goes, I personally have found that 5000-5500rpms is perfect for me, very to little wheel spin and a quick hook up of tires. Main reasons why people do this is of course you know at idle our cars create no boost but a vacume. Around 5000-6000 rpm range people typically see around 8lbs of boost which is enough to get you going. Be extremely carefully when practicing launching your car, make sure there is a lot of space in all directions as a lot of thing scan go wrong. Don't be a stinker if you break something, as it would be expected. Practice makes perfect. Remember that. |

I would set it to 6500 rpms but take it all the way to redline in 2nd gear so you don't have to shift into 3rd to get to 60mph.

I have my shift light set at 6400 rpm, but ignore it and shift at red line from first to second. The rest of the gears when the light flashes. It's a close approximation to maximize the area under the HP curve before and after the shift for a stock engine. (Ideality you would shift 1-2 above 7200 rpm, but you can't!) |

Ok, I actually meant REV WARNING, or however you want to put it. Bad wording just understand that I wasn't being literal. Guess this is why we are in the noob section. Anyways, I've got to read up on this BOOSTING LAUNCH. It seems very scary because I don't want to blow this transmission. I just got this car a couple weeks ago and I think I would die if anything happened to it. I just scraped a friends driveway tonight and almost blew a gasket. (damn steep driveways) Anybody have any youtube videos of them getting this BOOST LAUNCH? Also, I've got a stock turbo gauge and it never goes past .1 kPa. Should I be getting more pressure?

Don't worry too much about breaking the 6 speed tranny. The weak link are the rear axles.
If you rev the engine between 5000 to 6000 rpm at a dead stop and quickly let out the clutch you can haze all 4 tyres. Fastest way off the line. There is a YouTube vidio of launching and breaking an axle. Don't have the link handy though... Last edited by Web Foot STi; 07-15-2008 at 07:38 PM. Reason: sp |
