Angry Motherfarter!

I'm disassembling some used disposable cameras to salvage the flash circuitry for a project I want to work on later this week. As per common sense, I'm using an old, rubber-handled screwdriver to carefully discharge the 80uF/330V caps. Wee, sparks and popping noises!

I would like to point out that even after you think you've gotten the last of the stored charge out of a capacitor, they may be sneakily holding on to one last little zap that will make you pull your hand back right quick, knocking over the glass of water you have on your desk to soak your lab report results and leaving you with soggy paper, broken glass, and a slightly tingly finger.

Safety first, kids.

no, don't

When I was young I loved making boobie trap type things, and took the circuitry from a disp. camera flash and ran wires from each of the caps legs to the doorhandle of my room.

my dad went to go in my room and I guess it was charged too much.

holy **** he was pissed.

I did that to the door in a hotel i was staying at once. My bro came back from a trip to get ice or something and totally flipped when i got him...in lieu of retaliation i showed him how to work the things...we left it rigged that way when we checked out

Six right now and access to plenty more if I want.

PM is right, these little ****ers can hold one hell of a charge. I'm not going to be using the caps in this particular project, just the ancillary circuitry.

if you got a lot of extras I'd pay for shipping.

I want to create some sort of slave flash system for my camera so i can place multiple flashes around a landscape or soemthing.

PM,

Just ask at your local one-hour photo place. They literally just throw these things away.

this brings back memories...

when i was a kid (maybe 10/11yrs old) i figured out that those caps held a good charge- i'd go to goodwill or other thrift store and buy up any old 110 cameras w/ flashes i could find (they were usually dirt cheap like a couple bucks). then i'd charge the caps, rip them off, and stick people with them at school.

aaah the good ole' days.

Guys in the avionics backshop would pull some pretty big caps from cooked boards, charge them, then toss them to unsuspecting coworkers.

Big shock when you catch one bare-handed with the grounding strap on your wrist.
