Can't change gears when running
I have a problem that I am unsure of so I figured I would get a few suggestions from you guys/gals and see what you think. I washed my car and parked it in the garage. The next day I go to move the car. I started it up, let it warm up for a few minutes and went to pull out and it wouldn't go in to gear!! Just feels like there is no gears in place.. With the car turned off, it does go in to gear smoothly with no problems. It's like the clutch is not disengaging. I did put it in gear and started it but it just starts to buck and jump as if the clutch isn't pressed. It also sounds like the tob is making noise. Clutch pedal feels normal, all fluids are full, no leaks, new clutch. Car was working fine.. Any ideas?

Since you washed it, I assume you did the interior as well.
Did the floor mat happen to crawl under the clutch, stopping it from engaging? |

Your clutch/pressureplate/flywheel have rusted together. Happened to me a couple months ago. Roll the car out of the garage so you have room in front and behind it. With the car off, put it in either 1st or reverse. Press the clutch and start it. Just bump the ignition, as the car will want to lurch forward or backward. Do that a couple times and the clutch should free itself, and you will be good to go.

The rusting is the whole reason why I said I washed it then stored it..The car also didn't move for 2 years and sat outside. But I tried starting it in first and reverse and as It moves, it does seem to free it up. It gets to where it seems normal " clutch pressed, car just idles and doesn't move " but you hear a noise almost like the tob then catches and stalls the car. Would it be better to try starting it in 3rd gear? Would that have more force? Also I wonder if I try roll starting it without starting it would free it up.

Yeah, it's a stuck clutch. If it was a throwout bearing, it wouldn't engage a gear, right? I'd keep trying, in all the gears. Other option is to slowly back it up against something, or use super big wheel chocks and try to start it. Might dislodge it with more force. Also:" Put the car in first gear, depress the clutch, and start the car. The car will lurch forward with the starter and will be in motion as the engine starts. As soon as the engine is started, floor the gas. This sudden acceleration will in most cases break the disc free from the flywheel. Be sure to let off of the gas as soon as the disc breaks free so as not to overrev the engine. Flooring and then letting completely off of the gas may also help. Be careful to maintain control of the vehicle and watch where you're going!"

what do you mean just bump the ignition? I tried this like 3 times, and each time it seemed like It broke loose but then started making some weird noises like the tob so I would turn it off.. But with the same scenario each time.

How's the TOB feel/sound? I feel like the fork looks fine, more like wear. How well is it seating on the TOB?

Well, tried everything... cant get it to work.. Just replaced the tob, everything there looks and seems fine, can see it down through the shift fork hole releasing the pp. All fluids are full and pressure from slave cylinder is good. Car still pulls away when you start it in gear but once you get going and press the clutch the car will come to a stop but makes a rattle weird noise. Not a tob noise. Sounds like the clutch. I guess the only thing else to try is just replacing the whole clutch... any more ideas? I really dont feel like pulling the damn transmission again.

Found the problem!!! The bolts in the flywheel loosened and raped the inside of the clutch. I guess the guy who installed it didn't tighten them good enough.. Guess I'm putting the oem one back in for now. Hope this helps someone having the same problem.

Please use Blue Loctite on the bolts. That way you will not repeat the clutch installer's errors.
