Velma--MY02 WRX Build Thread
Well seeing as I have been working on my car for the last two years and it has been under going a pretty epic transformation, I figured that I would start my own build thread. I moved to AZ from Italy to attend college and ended up attending UTI. I first bought my car at the beginning of 2010 in Flagstaff AZ from a GM technician. I had always wanted a Subaru and I found a really cheap way to purchase one. This thing was rough when I first got it. Fail is an understatement. Even though most people would have had one look at it, laughed, and walked away, I still saw potential. It was a second owner vehicle with about 80k on it, but it was hideous. The motor was basically stock with just a few pointless mods. A K&N intake, a welded on exhaust tip, and a 75HP wet shot of nitrous. I knew that it was a risk, but I was ready to dive in head first. And so my story begins....

Obviously, the first thing to go were the vinyls and the body kit. Unfortunately due to the age and the Arizona sun, the glue from the decals had cooked all the way down to the metal, so the entire car had to be sanded down.

Also, the double sided tape used to attach the body kit pretty much rendered the front and rear bumpers into trash... Unfortunately all of the work I had been doing thus far was on a college student budget. Money was, and still is, very tight. But, as much as I love this car, I was pretty determined to get it done. Everything was hand done by myself. That includes the sanding.. and the rattle can primer. Let me tell you-- it was a lot of work..

The next thing on my list was to try to get the interior back to its stock goodness. I had gotten all the oem trim pieces pretty cheap from a complete part out. The nitrous also had to go ASAP. The seats were also taken out and sold.

So right about this time I found a set of Rota Tarmacs on craigslist for $100. I jumped on the opportunity quick!
Hella super tones and an FMIC! And here was the final product of the interior plus a Kartboy shifter thanks to my girlfriend |

Sanded down the entire car by hand and rattle can primered the whole car... What a miserable week that was. Way too much work to be doing in the AZ heat!

Swapped to an 06+ wingless trunk and had to replace the rear bumper due to the broken mounting plate. Exhaust wise I went with an Invidia DP, HKS high powered cat back, and a Grimmspeed EWG uppipe with a 38mm Tial waste gate.

Currently running a set of megan racing coilovers and ended up getting a set of 18x9.5 XXRs from my roommate. I wrapped them in 225/40/18 Nittos. Installed a new set of OEM rotors and Hawk HPS pads. Painted the calipers red because they were previously white :/

I have also been doing all the tuning myself, currently running the Group N Rom with speed density. I've got a turboXS BoV, short ram intake, TGV deletes, walbro 255, (unfortunately) A/C deleted , Perrin MBC, Innovative LC1... and probably more that I just can't think of now. I also have an old school APS GT35R sitting on my floor that I just need to get a rotated kit and injectors to throw on.

I'll try to get some updated engine bay shots up. A lot has changed since those pics.
