STI Spoiler added to a WRX?
Hey guys. I've done some searching across a few subie forums and am having a little bit of trouble here. I ordered my 2013 WRB WRX last week, and i am very certain i want a spoiler. I made an AD looking for a trunk swap in the forum, but i really am not leaning towards doing that.
I feel that it would be somewhat hard to find someone also, I found some OEM STI Spoilers on a Subie part website for 300$ shipped. If i go ahead and order that in the next week, and have it painted, and installed, what do you guys think the price is i'm looking at? I want it all done the right way. I was thinking it would be maybe $200 at the most for good paintwork, and maybe $200 for an install? Is this correct? The dealer told me it would all cost $2,000 dollars to do, and i was still wondering why. I know i would have to replace my springs in the trunk. I could do that part myself. Thanks for anyone who helps me out here, and if you have any questions, let me know!

Why not call local body shops to get the most accurate information and answer? And finding a trunk swap is NOT HARD at all.
Hell, since you don't even have the car yet, I'd wait until you get it to see what you think. |

Try other Subaru OEM Part Stores.
That price doesn't seem bad... Last edited by Navendra94; 10-02-2012 at 08:33 AM. |

I just like how it looks. I doubt it has much impact on performance. I think it takes a lot of the bulky look off the rear of the car. I'll call a few shops and see what they say. I just had a bad experience with getting my door replaced in my car at a dealership who did a VERY bad job on a 2010 Car. |

I just purchased a 2011 wrx and I was looking to do the same thing. Did you end up purchasing the wing and if so, how much did you pay including installation fees?

I'll go ahead and shed a little light on my experience of doing what you're trying to do.
-I ordered the STI (2012) wing off of Subaru's website for about 350$ Shipped (shipped to the dealer) -They had it painted for 250$-300$ if I recall correctly and were going to install it for about the same price, so all in all a little under a grand for the entire thing. Seems like a lot of money just for a spoiler huh? Well come install day I dropped my car off and get a phone call a few hours later telling me that there is a problem. The WRX trunk doesn't have the same supports as the STI trunk. With that said Subaru said they would install it if I really wanted them to, but there was a high chance that eventually or overtime the weight of the spoiler would bend my trunk. When ordering the wing they weren't aware that the supports were different and assumed the whole install would work fine. Luckily they game me my money back due to them not having all of the proper knowledge about this process. People on here might tell you you'll be fine and just put it on and of course you can if you wish to, but I just bought a 26k car and I'm sure as hell not taking a chance of messing it up. A new STI trunk was like 800$ or so, and that's without paint and install. That 2k price the dealer gave you is probably for the trunk, wing, paint, and install. |

Well if you're going to make the car faster, I suppose the STi wing would make it more stable...
If it's just for looks, it's not worth it. |

I'm just messing around.
you should be able to find something in the trunk swap thread, i think thats the easiest way. or most body shops will install. oem part i think can be ordered with paint on it? then youd just have to have it installed |

Yeah the torsion bars will help opening the trunk, it's like that with every car that has a wing no wing option-o

Just do a trunk swap way easier and no money spent. Just did a trunk swap few weeks ago and it was extremely easy everything is exactly the same between both cars just make sure u swap out the tension bars with trunk, also very easy. Took a total of 15 min to unplug all wires and take trunk cover off and unbolt trunk and rebolt new trunk hardest part and what took the most time was trying to line up the trunk to the car and make it sit perfect also most frustrating.

I've been looking for 6 months to find somebody with a 2011-13 wrb sti to swap with no luck.
I went to the local dealership and asked the parts department if anybody there has installed an sti spoiler on a wrx. Believe it or not, someone did a month ago and they just recently took it off because they said it rattled like crazy. So they were trying to talk me out of it and said don't because it will rattle even when you turn your music up. To me that sounds like they did a crappy job installing it and THAT is why it's rattling. |

I would say do a trunk swap, but good luck with that. I went that route and the best I got was drive 800 miles. I chose to buy the wing from subarugenuineparts.com $300 shipped to my door and gave a painter $100 to paint it on the side. I think it looks better with it. (my opinion) Also I had the dealer show me the trunks for an STI and WRX... they are the same structually. So installing it will not bend your trunk. Good luck what ever route you choose to go..

I received the spoiler as a gift and had it painted and installed for $150 at a shop my parents are friends with. it does not rattle and I have a Jb 10w3 sub in the trunk. the only difference is it's too heavy to open on its own with the remote. so it just unlocks.

well you could try this really, if i got a sedan i'd do that. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2208233 but i own a hatch and for me it was 150 for the spoiler from another owner, than 120 for a good paint job, i got very lucky. and i am installing it myself, after i get the water nozzle thing comin and some wiring issues, dude cut up the wire connector thing. all in all, its gonna cost some dough.
