Default drafting

does anyone know how close/far you have to be behind a truck in order for drafting to be effective?

It's really not that close, but it is very clearly not a legal following distance.

The closer you are, the more the affect. There's also something called "passive drafting" where instead of following behind the truck, you drive next to the truck. Safer and when the truck hits a big rock, the guy behind him gets a smashed headlight instead of you.
