Psh, definitely. All of the manual-only people on this forum remind me of the retards who buy manuals and bash automatics because it's the man's thing to do when I'm pretty sure automatics are part of the reason why they're even breathing today. ;D I love knocking manual-only enthusiasts.

I agree with the CVT for the new model. I guess they will continue with the FB25 and maybe introduce the DIT in a XT? Question with the XT is whether it would be offered right away, or maybe in the 2nd year of the new model. Currently the Forester is at 27/21, so maybe it gets a bump to 30-31 hwy and 23-24 city based on new transmission and improved aero. |

I think more than that and I wouldn't doubt at all the XT with DIT would be available right away. |

Just looked at a loaded XT Touring tonight along with a loaded turbo '13 Santa Fe.
Getting very tough to consider a Forester with all of the Santa Fe comes with. Way better MPG, great looks, great power, 6spd auto, killer stereo, push button start/fabless entry, front / rear heated seats, adjustable electronic steering etc. etc. etc. The Forester is just plain WAY behind the times. |

Santa Fe doesn't have AWD standard, which is a $1750 option. |

^^^seems like a fair comparison. They are both sitting on the showroom floor.

People cross-shop vehicles regardless of class, size, MPG, drivetrain, etc. Fairness really has no meaning here when it comes to demands and desire of the buyer.
It doesn't really matter in the end since the person buying any vehicle will have to deal with compromises and benefits of the vehicle(s) they decide upon. The Subaru Forester has its benefits and consequences as does the Hyundai Sante Fe. Let ignorant and inpatient people continue to be ignorant and inpatient. Learning the hard way seems to be just as rewarding as learning the easy way for people these days. They can certainly take the hit if they want to trade in or they can stay satisfied with their initial choice. The Hyundai Sante Fe isn't as off-road friendly as the current Subaru Forester though given the front lip for the Sante Fe. The Forester has better a departure angle. Same ground clearance (from measurements off the Internet) for both base models but the XT has .2 inches more. Not sure if that matters to most people given the slight difference. The Subaru Forester is lighter and faster though by a lot. So either you want luxury and don't mind performance (Hyundai Sante Fe) or you want performance and don't mind not having luxury (Subaru Forester). At least, until we see the redesigned Subaru Forester, that's how it does against the redesigned Sante Fe. |

You can put snow tires on a 2012 Toyota RAV4 and it still won't climb the same hill as a 2012 Subaru Forester with the same snow tires when only the right or left rear wheel has traction. The real comparison still stands either way regardless of snow tires or not.

I had a '96 T-Bird with snow tires on all 4 - and often could not go forward on level snow/ice covered streets, even with 300lbs of sand in the trunk. Never had that problem with my OB or Impreza. The RAV4 and CRV both have problematic 4WD/AWD, IMHO - they get stuck....

And that's normal for those who don't have the audacity to perform the job of preparation. Those people obviously will not have any luxury of waiting if they can't prepare

I'm looking ahead at my next vehicle, and while I used to be the type who said, "I'll always own a manual," I've grown and now consider the CVT a must if I'm going to upgrade to something like the Forester or Outback. |

Don't get too upset guys. The Subaru AWD is superior, no doubt, but the current Forester is just as boring as any other small/midsize SUV. When the Forester stood out up till 2008 the "box" was fun and the XT with manual was a blast. Subaru is doing a great job driving the brand to increase sales, but that means getting less unique to capture more market. As far as winter transport, I value my prius more than an AWD system. In the DC area, some ding dongs in there powerful RWD sedans will get stuck on every major and minor roadway, blocking every entrance and exit getting home. I had 5 strangers in my Prius keeping warm after there cars ran out of gas sitting on the road idling for 5 hours. If you can't move the powertrain doesn't matter. Before you blast me, I was once a hardcore Subaru guy and still love the brand, but the company is lagging in areas. Most people won't look at how the AWD system works, they just look at the trunk for the AWD logo.

Much of what you wrote makes no sense. Maybe your 5 strangers ran out of gas cause they didn't have enough gas in the tank that morning. Not sure exactly where Subaru is lagging? |
