"Backyard Special" (BYS) style tilted license plate brackets
So on my way home tonight I saw a pretty clean looking white S2000
Noticed this cool looking front license plate holder. Usually, I'm not a fan of those tilted license frames but this had me stopping to take a look. It looked cooool... and made me want it. After some searching on S2ki I found out it's made by Backyard Special for the S2000 -- but I don't see any reason it wouldn't fit a Subaru though right? Thoughts? $60-80 for the real deal JDM BYS part but it apparently doesn't fit USDM license plates. Fail. But there is a $32 'similar model' that does fit USDM license plates: http://www.ricks2k.com/products/plateholder.php ...Or you could probably make one with home depot + DIY ability I'm tempted to try it out (the 'similar model')... Better than the buck tooth. I used to have no front plate at all but got too many tickets (meter maids give out the tickets where I live so you don't have to be pulled over to get slammed with a $50 ticket). edit: bought / installed / pics... I love this part... really minimalist design and it changes the look of the front a bit. ^^ actually used spare gold bolts from an ARC part. JDM Fresh***8482; NOTE: To install the Rick's part... you need license plate mounts which you can buy for a few cents at any hardware store.

The spacing for the holes should be virtually the same for every USDM car, so yes, it should work fine on your Subaru.
You could get the replica, but I think you could get equally good results with a sheet of aluminum and a drill. Parts don't come much more simple than that. |

You might be talking about the generic one with the tilting rotational axis... Those are the kind that I'm less a fan of.
THESE: http://www.sigmaautomotive.com/SeikoSangyo/brackets.php Too much hardware involved to be cool... should be the world's simplest part And the Backyard Special one has... SPEED HOLES!!! |

In for pics... I noticed that the dealer screwed a front tag-frame INTO my front bumper and did not use the stock mounting holes. So now I've got 4 holes up front instead of two.

That would get you pulled over pretty quick here in Houston. Looks good but I'd rather not call attention to cops

Have that same Autozone adjustable bracket! Mines not quite at that much of an angle, but close. Also, not sure how long you've had it, but mine rusted SO fast, so I pulled it off and sprayed it with black rustoleum and it looks much better!
Edit: nevermind.. dont have to worry about rusting in LA |

I noticed the holes were too big... but I figured there was some kind of tag holder that went in the holes and had a mount for a US plate. I must say, of all the models I like the bugeyes the best. Too bad the odds of finding one with low miles are zero. Ah well... will have to check out this autozone adjustable tag holder thingy when my plates come in. |

Wagon's don't have fender flares so the bumper won't line up unless you do some work on it.
I am curious if there are issues with extreme angles on the plate like the one above and legality. |

if you rock the wagon fenders
you just need to get the wagon front bumper to accommodate the width as the sedan will be sticking out a tad bit wider. |

For people asking if i get pulled over alot for the angle, No i dont. I like to angle it like that so the camera wont see all of it. If they do stop me i would just simply say its loose and i can bend it in front of them. :]

Get in the ZONE! Autozone!
Yep, I have the same one from Autozone for $10 made by PILOT. This thing rusted SO fast after a rainy day that I'd advise the first thing to do is paint it. Haven't been pulled over in Bay Area California. Not sure if the street light/red light camera's take a clear shot of it but I do know that the FasTrak cameras does miss the front.

Anybody ever get pics of the BYS one on a scooby? My tags came in yesterday... so I guess I'm gonna go over to autozone today and see if they have one of the Pilot ones.

It's a little on the costly side, but allegedly it uses the 'factory' holes so that you don't have to drill your bumper. There's also these for those who don't want a folding style... or prefer to spend their money on fun parts instead of license plate holders. http://www.totsubomotorsports.com/TM...terior_FLM.htm |
