Default Looking for performance wet weather tire

I've read a few of the threads out there, specifically Pat's http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=497345 and the tire review thread http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=436103 and would like any additional comments.

I'm looking for tires for my GF's S2000. It needs a tire with better wet traction. It's pretty bad now in the rain with the RWD and lighter weight. (I know I should ask this question on a S2000 board, but I figured I'd get the subie guys input too)

I'm currently running the eagle GS-D3's and have been pretty happy with them, so they are definitely one possibility that I'm looking at. Are there any other tires I should definitely look at, or stay away from?

TIA.

Josh

Ask Honda-tech? Michelin Pilot's or Blizzaks, Nokian? Or Dunlops are good too.

Toyo T1-S are supposed to be on par or better than S-03s in the wet. Can't go wrong with the F1 GS-D3s, either.

choose between these 2

S-03 Pole Position
Eagle F1 GS-D3

both are excellent but, the Eagle looks a little narrow when compared to the S-03

Hi Josh.

Here's a link to a tire test focusing on 17" wet max performance tires - especially hydroplaning performance - from Germany's "Auto Motor und Sport" magazine:

http://www.falken-europe.de/common/i...fs/sa_test.pdf

The Goodyear GS-D3, Falken GRB FK451 and Dunlop SP9000 all did very well. The Toyo T1S also tested well except for the hydroplaning where it finished last in an admittedly severe test on Continental's test track here in Texas.

Unfortunately, the S03 was not tested.

thanks guys for all the info.

Here's a little info I found out today from the www.s2ki.com forums.

Apparently honda made the OEM S02 rear tires wider then a standard 225 tire. So if you go with a non-oem tire, you really need a 245/45 r16 for the rear.

The two tires that were brought up on the s2k forums were the S03's and RE750's......think someone mentioned the yoko ES100 as well.

So the two I'll suggest to her are the

S03's & RE750's.

Anyone have any specific comments on the RE750's or S03's......good/bad, wet/dry traction/handling/braking.

Luke.....I'm goin to pm you to check on price and sizes.....

According to Tire Rack's test results the F1GS-D3 was marginally better than the S-03PP in head-to-head testing in the wet. The new generation Pilot Sport is also very good in the wet, but I think is only available in limited sizes thus far and of course it costs an arm and a leg since it's a Michelin.

There aren't any direct comparisons between the Max and Ultra High performance tires, so it's tough to say how the RE750 would compare.

Thanks Pat for your comments.

If it were my car, I'd probably get the S03's, however since it's the GF's, it's her decision, and she really needs a better tire in the wet. The issue is, how much dry traction/control do you want to give up for that wet weather. So....we'll see, and I'm sure price will be an issue too.

Whenever the decision get's made, I'll update ya on what she got, and how they are working out.

My vote goes to the Firestone SZ50ep's. I never hydroplaned with those tires, even when they were nearly bald, and the grip was outstanding. My current summer tires are falken fk451's. They are pretty good, but not as good as the firestone. Check out the reviews on tirerack,

Bryan

I vote for the Falken Azenis ST-115. Best rain tire I've ever driven on. they wear like iron, and they grip like crazy in the dry.

Just dont drive em in the snow!!

Josh your PM box is full so I sent you an email. On the S03 vs. the RE750. I am sure that the S03 is better performance. However, it costs more and the treadlife is less so it is a tradeoff in that respect.

I second that!!!

Best rain tires I've ever driven on.
VERY wide water grooves.

I was hitting standing water on the highway a couple weeks ago at 60+ mph and that didn't even faze these tires.

Best tire for the money! $100 bucks each!

They're quiet too.

i'll have to say SO3s if money isnt an issue. in the rain those RWDs can get pretty dangerous with crappy tires. i've never driven with the RE750 in person, but base on the RE730(older version of the 750) i would say they're like younger brother to the SO3, which is also a good tire.

i would say if u use the car as a communter or drive most of the time on the freeway get the RE750s for more tradelife. but if ur gonna bring ur car to autocross and expect max grip go for the SO3s.

I had the potenza RE730's (older version of the RE750) And I loved them. Nice and quiet, and did great in the rain, even standing water (I live in washington state). I will be buying RE750's for my next set

Just to let everyone know. I think she decided on the RE750's. The S03's would be nice, but she has a 60 mi round trip commute every day, so she needs a tire that's not going to need replacing every 10k or less.

When she gets them on, I'll try and post feedback.
