Thumbs down Bald Hill Subaru and Anchor Subaru in Rhode Island

First off, my experience with Anchor Subaru has given me the worst impression of Subaru service. I was there about a month ago and had them check the cold clutch shudder problem, plus my MBC was acting up and the boost was only going to 7psi.

I left the car overnight for them to reproduce the clutch shudder, and the next day it took them the whole entire day to tell me "Oh it's fine, drives fine, no shudder." I'm thinking to myself, it's cold clutch shudder, why didn't they check it in the morning? Anyways I let that pass, but when the tech guy said there was also no problem with the boost I began to worry. He said "Yeah, car is driving fine, boost seems ok." Now, I have a boost gauge, so I know it is low because for 2 years i've had the MBC and it has been holding ~14psi every time I'm on the gas. So I know there's something wrong if it's only going to 7psi. I tell the guy, "Well, there's definitely something wrong. It's only going to 7psi." He replies, "I'm not sure what it's supposed to be, I couldn't find it in the manual, but it drives fine."

At this point, lights are going off, bells are whistling, I'm thinking to myself how does this Subaru technician not know what it's supposed to be?? So I just go by and pick the car back up quick as possible and never ever go back there again.

Now a month later, I decide to try my luck at Bald Hill Subaru. In the meantime I've fixed the boost problem myself thanks to a fellow nasioc'er , so I'm only taking the car in for the cold clutch shudder and now there's a weird black blotch thing (like the liquid crystal leaked) in the odometer lcd screen that slowly moves around. So I tell them the problems and I leave the car again overnight for them to reproduce the clutch shudder. The next day they call up, which is better service than Anchor because I had to call them repeatedly throughout the day and harrass them about if they've checked the problems out, and tell me they were able to reproduce the shudder. I'm like, "Great, finally it's going to get fixed!!" But the guy goes on and says, "But your car is modified so I'm not sure it will be covered under the warranty. And the odometer says 94,000 miles not 34,000 (which I told them that's what it has.. which it does)." All my hopes are dashed again, just because i have different wheels, removed the intake silencer, and have an MBC and all warranty stuff is out the window??? And c'mon now, there's a freakin blotch in the lcd which I told you about that's blocking the odometer numbers, and can't you plug your computers up the car and tell exactly how many miles are on the car. Sheesh.

So moral of the story... no more RI dealerships for me. I'm going to some tried and true dealership in NJ/NY. And in case you're wondering, I'm up in RI on business during the weekdays so I figured it's easier for me to take the car to a dealership up here to get worked on, then it is for me in NJ during the weekends.

Hope this review helps someone avoid a potential bad experience.

Chris

Default Good salepeople bad finance dept.

Yeah I am not too cracked up with the service I recieved at Anchor Subaru either. Specifically from Cliff Berry and their finance department

I was car shopping with my fiance and had settled on a 97 Impreza L AWD (Thanks to salesman Paul Wilson who was probably the best salesman I have ever dealt with). When it came to talk numbers Cliff was very unwilling to discuss anything and then came back with the news that we were denied for the L but were approved for the (more expensive but much much nicer..) 2000 2.5RS. We test drove it and were in love so we decided to deal. The only specifics we were told was that we needed 2,000 down and that the payments would be "under 300 a month". He also added that the interest rate would be their "standard 17.9%". Forget that, we would try to get our own financing through our own bank.

The straw that broke the camels back was the fact that they were unwilling to roll the $1500 I owed on my Talon into the loan. It basically went from "Not a problem just bring the car down and we'll check it out and finish the deal", to "I have no idea what you're talking about we never said that."

The overall vagueness and unwillingness to discuss what we could afford per month vs. what they wanted and the fact that they seemed to just make things up as they went along led us to go elsewhere and get our Legacy Outback.

Cool

I have to say im not too impressed with anchors service dept. but their sales dept has been great with me. Cliff and Ron helped me when I got my car. I had a problem with a scratch on the rear bumper after I picked it up so they repainted it for me. I was so impressed with their service and ability to work with me that I've brought two of my friends there to buy cars as well, one ended up not buying due to financial problems, but once hes got some $$$ he plans on going back and purchasing there. I dunno, maybe you guys caught em on a bad day.
