Default What do you need to do to use E85 fuel?

What do you change on your car if you want to run E85 fuel?

I know you will have to get a tune but what else?

They have an article about it in the new Modified mag (I think) about the CST Subaru that runs on E85. It's the tuner shoot out with three cars on the cover. They had to run huge injectors and I think 8 of them with duel fuel pumps but it is a race car.

You can't push that much fuel with the stock fuel pump. A walbro is only like 90. If you are thinking of 450 for injectors and 400 for a cobb tune. 90 isn't much more.

If you are asking this question and not searching, I probably wouldn't recommend running E85

Why do you want to use E85? There are only 3 E85 gas stations in Utah. You use 30% more fuel also. Just get tuned on race gas and use it at the track.

It's a perk to be able to make different maps for some of you. Full time, I wouldn't do it in Utah on a daily driver. For some of you doing open source tuning or virus maps, it's a good exercise to work with a good fuel. Just 30% ethanol staves off detonation and doesn't require much of a bump in fueling.

The stock parts do well, but it needs some love in the fueling department. A Walbro 255 helps, but you need bigger injectors for full E85. Splash blends are popular, too. Don't be shy of just using 30% or 50% ethanol, either. Colder plugs rock out, too. I swear by BKR7E11 NGK-Rs with a tight gap.

I always end up adding a few gallons of 91 to my E85 just to put some heat in the block. After years of using e85 I can say that it almost does it's cooling job too well. 30% and 50% blends will work just fine for most of you on an experimental basis without extensive fuel system mods.

Because it would be an easy way to get some more power with out running $8.00 a gallon gas, and there is a station right by my house where I can get it.

Are you going to bring gallons of gas with you to the track? You'll use it fast.

ya, 1 track day it about 1 tank of gas. You won't make it there and back on a tank of gas. I would suggest bringing 15 gal at least to the track. 5 gal to fill up once you get there, 5 gal just in case you run out there ( you will burn 1/4 tank getting to milller from Clearfield) 5gal to get you home, hopefully and 5 gal to get you home, hopefully.

Sure there's more he could *do*, but there's not much to do for him to simply use more ethanol. It's more about user training than getting new parts when it comes to ethanol use.

im not sayin so much the ethanol at all but that if he is sitting at stage 2 there are other parts he could get rather than simply worrying about cheap power you know?

That's true, and with e85 it will be more fuel being burned.

I ran out on the track once a few years ago. I usually top off when I get off 84 before the track and fill up on the way out of town.

If im using a 1/2 per session on normal gasoline. Id probably be about 3/4 a tank with ethanol lol.

I sure love how the stuff smells.

It's weird on paper, but makes sense underfoot. With making more torque, I'm in the throttle less which preserves my mileage. That only works on the street, though. A track session will indeed see worse mileage. However, my driving style changes with more torque. I shift sooner coming out of corners and don't have to rap the car out to redline to see times drop.
