Post JUN eyelid substitute experiment on WRX

First I was going to order some of the clear plastic headlight covers and paint them on, but it turned out that they weren't available (anybody know where to get some?) So now I've got a roll of White Vinyl decal material (3mil thick, the car is Aspen White) and I'm going to try and duplicate the look with it instead. Any suggestions/hints/cautions? And yeah, I know It's "walla walla washington".

EDIT: Please see my reply .

The word for today is "walla walla washington". The word I edited out we do not use on this board, henceforth why the language filter blocks it out.

Cool filter, does the word change every day? Maybe you could make it pick words/phrases randomly from a list and we could do "Mad Libs" style content filtering.

Yep, changes every day at my whim . The other day it was "fluffernutter" today it was "walla walla washington." Tomorrow, it could be 'bifrost' (points to those who know what that is/where it leads... ) or maybe 'eleysium.' Just depends on the mood I'm in, and today, it was a Bugs Bunny mood; that 'walla walla washington' bit was from the 'Count, Blood Count' Bugs Bunny cartoon . I'm an umm... 'eccentric' person, I admit it. People will stop using the 'r' word, at least in this forum. However, back to the regularly scheduled thread...

Ok, as for the vinyl idea? I intend to try it on my RS, to see if I like the 'eyebrow' look. I think it's a good (read: inexpensive ) idea!

I took a few pieces of the material for some trial fits, still needs a lot of work but I think it's got potential, the white matches better than I thought it would. Pics here: http://members.tripod.com/phillip_cline/eyelid.htm

Check out the hood vents at the bottom too.

Here's the final product, temp page for the experiment is gone now, let me know what you guys think. Color is a lot better in the sun, but looks different under fluorescent lights. http://members.tripod.com/phillip_cline/eyes/eyes.html

Your car is SWWEEETTT MAN!
I've been having this debate over getting a Silver or White car. But after seeing your car, I think it's definitely white now.
The car looks awesome with the eyelids. Man, if you can save some money and make it look like something professional, GO FOR IT!

Now, can you take some pics of the car at night? With your lights on. Would love to see how it would look.

Peace.
Tuan

For simplicity, I added the night pictures to the bottom of my existing pictures here: http://members.tripod.com/phillip_cline/eyes/eyes.html
If you want the template just send me a e-mail, and I'll give you the address for a SASE. It's purposely a little oversized and needs to be trimmed around the top edge. All I ask is that you give me some credit when you're showing them off. BTW, if you decide to make them yourself, the curvature at the bottom is tricky.

Wierd, I thought all US-WRXs came with only one interior color choice? At least that's what the brochure shows. Kinda odd, are those seats salmon in color?

Funny you mention that, the seats are actually black, but when photographed with that digicam they alway come out that color. May have something to do with the camera's CCD picking up part of the non-visible spectrum. It only happens in sunlight. IR, UV, I dunno.

The film was $5 for a 22"x36" sheet. I made 3 trial versions, two final copies, and I've still got plenty left to play with. I just went to a local sign shop and ask for white vinyl decal material.

Blinker makes the eyelid light-up blinker color with slight shadows from the pattern on the reflector assembly, and it shines brightly through the clear slit beneath. Blinker is still VERY visible, I don't think it will be a problem. I haven't watched it in the daylight yet though, I'll have to check that out, but I'm sure it's OK.

AND, here's the foglight mod: http://members.tripod.com/phillip_cline/fogmod.htm

This is a preview of what the WRX seats will look like after six years of sunlight damage. Most black dyes are mixtures of many different pigments -- some with better permanency than others. As the less permanent pigments fade the more permanent components will start to change the perceived color of the fabric.
