I know that a spun bearing doesn't guarantee a seize. But if you drive with a spun bearing for long enough, the resultant heat can cause a seize and cracked blocks/heads etc, but I guess you make a good point that 09 owners in the bad range would be attentive enough to engine sounds to that they'd catch it prior to a seize.

I've definitely heard/seen of numerous engines that seized after high performance usage of an engine with a spun main bearing.

i'm not sure if thats a safety concern,.. it seems alright to me,.. you put the car in neutral and you have the wife and kids push it to grandma's while you steer...

Well, if you drive on a spun bearing long enough, and then get in a 10 car pile up... That's just natural selection doing it's job..

It can only take less than 1/4 mile before the engine seizes by the way: 87 Fox body 5.0L with a roots blower. My friend knew the internals were approaching the end of their life. Anyway, a little more than half way down the track he said he felt like the car was slowing down and then the wheels lock up shortly thereafter.

The 10 car pile up was hyperbole.

^ +1 to the relatively short distance in which the engine will "seize" or otherwise die.

One '09 Forester XT owner (not me, although our engine suffered a spun bearing at approx. 4200 miles, and a longblock was replaced under warranty) barely made it from the start of a typical off-ramp, to its end, before the vehicle simply died.

is this thread pertain to the 2009 STI ? my build date 7/8 vin 500309. . .

I drive pretty hard but always after a good warm up and never in the red, use the AP with cobb 91 ACN, usually add a gallon or two of VP 100, 9500 miles and no probs. . .

Well, my '09 WRX 5-door with 08/08 build date made it until 16,500 miles without any problems. Then, without warning...
