Have a Nice Day?

I too have been looking for the rear fog light assembly, my problem is that I have a '05 2.5RS wagon. I found a few pictures of a 04-05 WRX wagon with a factory rear fog light assembly - so I know they exist.

(Russian)

(picture from Polish site - plate/car is German)

Possibly an 06? (has star badge rather than the word "SUBARU.")

on the wrong side but -

I was in Bulgaria and called a dealer for an 06 rear brake light assembly. They wanted 200 Euro (almost $400 - at the time) cash. It was made clear that it had the rear fog light. I took a picture while I was there, although it was of a sedan -

I've read the posts and I have come to the conclusion that the sedans are pre-wired... what about the wagons? I too am looking for the rear fog light switch with the amber light (from previous posts- part # 83001FE051) Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just FYI, I just got a set of switches, one front fog and one rear fog switch off of eBay U.K. for 5 pounds (about $7). On eBay, you can set it up to save searches and it will email you when somebody adds an auction that you are looking for. I will post how I installed it a little later... I have to go to work.

Ok, so I bought an extra front switch and a rear switch from eBay for like $6. Here are the end results:

from outside:

from inside, lights off:

from inside, lights on:

from inside, rear fog on:

So what I did was this. I already had the extra front fog switch working. The rear switch has a different pinout and it also behaves differently. The front switch, when activated, will depress and lock and an indicator lights up above the picture on the switch. The rear switch does not stay depressed when activated. It is just a toggle that must activate some logic somewhere else. Also there is no indicator on the switch to tell you that it is activated. I assume that an indicator must light up in the dash somewhere similar to a high beam indicator.

I simply took the outside visible portion of the rear switch and popped it off of the rear switch assemply, and installed it on the front switch assembly. It pulls apart pretty easily. That way, the wiring that I figured out earlier would not change.

To get the indicator to work, I bought a 3mm yellow LED and some 1/8w 330 ohm resistors. Then remove the indicator light bulb from the switch. I drilled a hole in the last blank using a #33 size drill bit (.113"). This was a perfect pressure fit. I used 3 of the 330 ohm resistors and ran the leads to the indicator light bulb base on the rear switch.

Let me know if this was confusing and I can try to clarify...

USDM sedans are not prewired for the rear foglamp. There is a 6th open slot in either harness plug connector in the trunk as there is on each reciprocating bulb harness to accept a wire terminal end.

There is however a fuse position in the fuse box under the dash with a 15 amp fuse already installed for the rear foglamp(s), but it does nothing.

I scavenged a set of wire terminal ends off of a wreck and filled in the 6th open slot and now I have "clean" wiring for the rear foglamps. I have both sides wired.

^ I don't know for sure, but I don't believe so.

The European-market SF (and I believe also SG) Foresters also has such provisions/options for their rear-fog setup.

http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...s-my-sf-54115/

Either single, or both sides, depending on local laws and regulations.

My 05 is pre-wired for one. You can't tell unless you take some tape off one of the bulb harnesses in the trunk. It will be on the middle bottom light on the 05's. You can see an extra wire that comes out of the harness that's about a couple inches long and goes no where. This is the wire that you would run to a switch in the cabin to activate the rear-fog.

it is a photoshop. it's my plan.

i may do it inside the plate recess, depending on bumper space on the sides.

Has anyone with a wagon tried just using a high-output LSD bulb in the stock reverse location?

^ On my LegacyGT.com thread, where I tried several different methods of attacking this project in my BL 2.5GT, including using LEDs, I thought about using something akin to their "3x 1W LED" as my lighting source:

http://superlumination.com/images/au...3sshs_r_wm.jpg

as well as:

http://www.superbrightleds.com/specs/1156-xLX5.htm (one 3W side-firing LS, plus an array of 4 SMT elements surrounding it)

The problem is one of heat-management.

I'd expect that a rear-fog would be utilized in a constant-on manner - and given how much heat these setups can potentially generate (hinted-at by the various statements of heat-sinking as well as the visible heat-sink fins of the latter option), as well as their stated heat-protection measures (automatic disengagement), I didn't know if they would be suitable for the rear-fog application.

Curious here...does anyone have enough experience with the high-powered 1 X 3 watt of the 3 X 1 watt LEDS to know if they really do generate that much heat and if this would work?

I want to do this on both the 04 OBS and the 05 GD RS, the later seems pre setup for this much more than the OBS. The sedan has 2 levels of tail lights with the turn-reverse on top and 3 lights on the bottom row-all red with the inside round one having a strong lens that would seem to shine pretty far with an upgraded bulb...its there and works when the brake is depresed, the 2 outer bulbs both being double fillament , working 1 inner filament with parking light, 2 with lights on and both inner and 1 outer fillament with brakes(+3rd inner round bulb too). whats the max watt bulb can put in the inner lens. Dont want to melt anything...I'd run the inners as rear fog and the 2 outer inner filament as - 1 parking-2 lights on, and all 4 outer filaments for brakes. I've read every page and cross linked page about this thread and am prety shure all I need to do is get a fog switch (rs has no front fogs but is prewired for em) and work the rear taillight connector, 1 free slot and taped wire comming from bulb (found as mentioned previously in this thread). In diging around the trunk and puling back on the interior of it I found a mystery pair of wires on the passenger side coming out of the wire harness that comes into the trunk around that strut tower, with a white connector plug on the end of em...any ideas?

OBS needs a little more I think, so I'm going for RS first it being my first major(for me) lighting-electrical mod.
