Thumbs up Blue Batmobile/Overlay Thread - Hatch Edition!

Let's see your hatch overlays!

I was able to find a couple of sedan threads for overlays, but nothing specific to the hatch, so I'm starting one. We all know the stock taillights on the 08+ cars are hideous (especially the hatchbacks), and luckily I work not far from Blue Batmobile. We met up and I left with red vinyl for the tails and yellow for the foglights.

I ended up with a few creases in the top "multi-curve" areas, and yes they do bug me, but no they're not visible from more than a step back. I learned a lot doing this and would definitely do it again, although I'd take a little more time. I got excited when the first one went so well that I rushed the 2nd. The fogs were cake, but the cake is a lie...

On to the pics!

Before:

After:

I need better pics of the foglights, but my camera isn't so great:

Big thanks to Blue Batmobile for a good deal on a good product. The overlays came with clear instructions and he gives great advice, but like I said I should have taken it slower.

There are a few different styles of the taillight overlays, so let's see some more!

Did you have to remove the fog lights to install the overlays?

^Nope, the bezel just pops off similar to the GDs.

In the owner's manual, if you look up where to put your tow hook, you should see a pic of how to pry the fog bezel off. This may be different with the 2011s but I couldn't say.

They look good! I think I may be interested in a set of fog overlays for '10 wrx hehe. Does anyone know if I need to detach anything or just stick them on?

He sends instructions, but basically you clean the surface w/ soapy water then slap that vinyl on and get to work w/ a squeegee and hair dryer.

Fog overlays were a billion times easier than the tails. You'd have to make an effort to screw up on the fogs.

I almost ordered them before signing paperwork.

Come on, I know there are more people out there with overlays on a hatch. Any kind, post 'em up! It's good to see different overlay patterns on different colored cars.

I just put in an order for overlays for my 2011 hatch tails, atleast I think I did. I sent the payment through paypal and left a comment describing the overlays I want.

I haven't gotten any confirmation or anything, is this typical?

To anyone thats scared to install them, take them to a vinyl shop or a tint shop and they will install them for around 65 dollars. And these WILL not peel off in a car wash.

I ordered my first set from Bluebat a few months ago and completely f00ked the install. Just got my second set from him in the mail yesterday, and I'll be taking it to a tint shop to get them put on this time.
