Ford Mustang "Bullitt" Breaks Cover a Little Early

While we'll all get a chance to take a look at the first drive preview of the new "Bullitt" edition Mustang after the mighty Mike Bumbeck gets a chance to drive it tomorrow and Wednesday, the Mustang-lovers over at MustangPhotos managed to get an early shot off of one of the new edition Mustangs -- or at least the back end of it -- as it waited for journalists in Northern California -- you know, to whet your appetites

The only piece of chrome my '07 GT had on it was the Pony emblem on the front grille.....

I really don't care for the chrome trim around the windows on the Bullitt. Looks like an Auto Zone special.

If it's fast, who cares how much chrome trim it has?

Funny how Subaru enthusiasts get so smug about the way other cars look.

The Shelby GT and Hertz are the same right? I saw a GT 350 the other day also.

To see if the special edition really is something special. From the picture, I submit that is is not, hence the disinterest.

Yeah, they're the same. Only difference is the Hertz edition comes with the auto because it's a rental car and the Shelby GT doesn't, but other than that, yes they are the same.

The Shelby GT is really a waste. A few minor mods over a regular GT and you're paying another $7k for it. Eff that. You're basically just paying for the name, IMO.

Untill they make a special edition with IRS and a quality interior I'll have no interest. So I'm guessing I'll never have an interest.

The interior in an '05+ Mustang isn't any worse than the "quality interior" in an Impreza.

Because anyone here needs IRS? The Ford Racing Mustangs seem to do quite well without.

As to the amount of "special" editions... are Subaru people really pokeing fun at the number of "special" editions another company is making... are you serious???

No not at all. The vast majority of Mustang enthusiasts drag race, not road race. Live rear axles are much better for drag racing than an IRS is.

Yeah, we are. Here's a quote from me dated 7-24-2007. Note they've still been continually releasing more since then.

So that's 21 off the top of my head. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few. And sadly, most of them are overpriced and not as fast as you would expect. In fact, I personally would sooner buy a base C6 Corvette than pretty much 100% of these special edition Mustangs. And I'd be faster than most of them and spend less money than a great deal of them too.
And that's just the Mustang.

2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt

30 - 0 (ft): 30
60 - 0 (ft): 122

Braking Rating: Very Good
Slalom (mph): 67.2
Skid Pad Lateral acceleration (g): 0.84

Handling Rating: Very Good
Db @ Idle: 50.7
Db @ Full Throttle: 82.3
Db @ 70 mph Cruise: 70.3

Acceleration Comments: Shifter feels great, like it was made for banging gears. Quickest of many near-stock iteration of new Mustangs we've tested. Right sound and feel for a muscle car.

Handling Comments: Takes much coaxing to provoke lurid powerslides on the skid pad. Natural cornering attitude is understeer. In the slalom it's very quick for a Mustang. Quick turn-in response, yet it has relatively low limits. Predictable, textbook rear-wheel drive.

Braking Comments: Pedal feels good and doesn't lack confidence until brake pounding gets severe. Will eventually fade.
