Default Formula 1 2012 - Round 19: The United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas

I'm making this thread a tad early because I know some of you will be attending the special events in the lead-up to the inaugural race there.

It's Fernando Alonso versus Sebastian Vettel for the title! RBR only needs 4 points in the next 2 races to lock up the constructor's crown, but given Vettel's pace at the past few races, he looks to be the safe bet for the driver's crown. His 10-point advantage over Alonso doesn't hurt, either.

As this is the first race at this track, I have no predictions on who will win. There's a fast bendy part similar to Maggots-Becketts-Chapel at Silverstone, a super long straight begging for Monza aerodynamics, and the last corner looks almost identical (to me) as the final corner at Interlagos.

For those of you attending the race, POST PICS!!!!!!! We will be both jealous and appreciative!

I'll post some pics, but I don't know what the Internets situation at my hotel will be so it may be Monday before I have decent bandwidth. I think the Sauber's And Ferrari's will be the fastest in the race. Pole will go to whoever makes the most mistake free lap on this new track. Alonso? Kimi?

That first corner has Grosjean's name all over it.

The FIA should instruct him to take the outside line no matter what.

Can't wait for this event to happen!

On RBR's note, it does look like RBR can dominate in this track, but as we have seen, they have done very very well this year in low downforce tracks as well! With Lotus on the pedestal right now, Ferrari needing a win to stay alive and McLaren always having a surprise, Should be interesting, but as stated in your link, It is Vettels race to lose.

Section 2 reminds me a bit of Suzuka Circuit.

I had planned to go, but I got engaged ::

Wish I could make the race this year...anyways go Vettel.

Anybody think ticket prices will go down for next year?

Yeah, GO VETTEL! straight into the gravel trap

Prices will almost certainly not go down next year, since the race this year is totally sold out (except for the Paddock Club).

Edit: Just noticed the race won't be airing until 11 PM Sunday night here.

I want to say that it's disappointing the prices won't go down, but at the same time I am extremely happy that it's sold out. I would like to have a circuit in the USA for a long time to come.

Ouch on the 11PM!

It'll be nice to actually have a race in a time zone behind me again.

Nooo, I like waking up and the race already happened so I can just download the torrents in the morning. Won't be until late afternoon/early evening with this race.

11pm ain't ****. What time do the European races start on the west coast? 5am? Malaysia, China, India, and Korea were all ridiculous for the east coast this year.

i saw, thanks for the clarification!

I saw FP1 for the first 45 min. then had to leave for class. When i left, Lewis was p1 with vettel p2 and Alonso p3. Lewis was 1:40.1xx but dam, how the hell did vettel just jump to p1 by over a second?! only thing i can think of is that he went on to the mediums while everyone else was on hards? Is this true?

Probably on completely different strategies on different fuel loads doing different setup tests. Don't read anything into it.

And yes, if you look at boxster's location it's "International".
