Default Sliding Armrest with Cupholders from Forester XT

Hi everyone,

I picked up a 9-2x Aero awhile back, my first subie. On long trips though I found the regular armrest useless. I saw that there is an armrest extension, however I didn't really like the look of it and was weary about dropping the money on it without knowing if it would be too far back, too high/low, etc. I also wanted the ability to slide it forward for long road trips.

I saw that the Forester XT had a pretty sweet armrest. It was higher, had the sliding capability, and also had a nifty thing where you could flip it out for additional cupholders.

So I thought, the center consoles are basically the same between the Forester and Impreza, why wouldn't that work? But I couldn't find anything where someone had attempted it. So I took a chance and bought one off eBay.

And here are the results:

Old armrest

Swapped in armrest

Sliding forward

Flipping cupholder action

It's a little high up but I prefer my seat in the high setting so it's perfect for me. And the color I think works with the 9-2x interior. Also, it includes a 12 V outlet inside that I plan to hook up later. Another nice thing is for shifting if you want to flip it out of the way so your elbow doesn't hit it, it doesn't look out of place.

Just thought I'd share my experience in case someone else wanted to do it. If there's interest I can do a write up on it. Took me awhile to figure out how to remove the old one from the console. If you want the armrest to be more secure you do have to order a Forester bracket from Subaru for like $10 (PN 92178SA040). Everything else is a straight swap.

Old bracket vs new, guessing you can tell which is which

I’d be interested in a write up if the offer still stands. Been wanting to do this swap in my SG. I hate how low the current console is.
