Default Calling all cars with Throttle body spacers

Time to chime in and see who loves them and who hates them. Who sees gains and who thinks they are a waste. State your brand and opinion and whether or not gas mileage has improved or declined.

Personally I have a Group A TBS and love it. I feel the car pulls harder. I am up to speeds in 4th gear that use to be 5th. Still on the first tank of gas..but it is looking real good will update.... in a few more days!!

I'm sure this has been done before, but I would like to hear what people have to say as well. On the fence about picking one up.

Who knew that a TBS could change your gear ratios.

Here's one for "not worth the money."

I have a group a TBS and pulley and I am not sure if it was worth the money. I havent noticed any difference in gas consumption which apperantly should have been more noticable then gains in performance. I beleive i did free up some power by swapping these parts. I dont think I got any extra hp if thats what your looking for.

Apparently these don't have any gains whatsoever for the DOHC phase 1 EJ25 at least. Pat Olsen dyno'ed his with one. Search this forums for his thread.

When they first came out people were nothing but positive reviews about them; now I don't know if that was just positive thinking/excitement over a new part, but more and more less-than-stellar reviews are trickling in about these things.

Maybe you have to be in the right frame of mind to see gains with these things

I did a quick write up on here (search is your friend) and rs25.com:

Nothing conclusive, just driving impressions and comments on the install.

I do. Am I happy I have them?...sure any mods I can buy for my N/A suby are fine by me.

Does it work: I would say yes as a pair there is a little more top end breathing due to the much larger plenum. Also, I have a scan gauge to monitor intake temps and the manifold spacer helped enormously.

All in all the manifold spacer would show a bigger boost in power by itself than the TBS by itself. I love my TBS though because it was made by the awesome guys at AREA1320 (happy to support them) and it has the vortex so in 2nd and 3rd gear i hear a whistle when accelerating.

Gas savings are minimal...maybe .5 mpg so it's pretty much negligible.

So my tip would be either do the manifold spacer by itself or do both, but def. not a TBS by itself.

I have them as well (see above). I'm pretty sure the IAT (intake air temperature) is taken at the MAF which is before both the TBS and IM spacer. Thus the thermal benefits of IM spacer are an after effect of the IAT. (IAT is will remain unchanged with/without IM spacer for given ambient temp) Credit to Grimmspeed who pointed this out, unsure if this is for all Subaru's, stands for 05+.

You know, one guy with an 05+ and a tactrix cable could solve this in an afternoon.

Log MAFv, Massflow, Load, MRP, and RPM without the TBS. Install TBS and make the same logging run again. If all those variables didn't go up (MAFv, Massflow, and Load are really the same thing, but it's nice to have the computer spit them out in different "views" for you), then the TBS doesn't work.

There's no good science behind the TBS working on our cars. More than that, if the TBS actually worked like the people who champion them claim, it would make our cars WORSE not better.

Hell, I'll throw the gauntlet down right now. Put a TBS in my hand and I'll give the world concrete results within 24 hours and even send the TBS back where it came from so no one's out a part.

Willi- What about the 'conclusive' dynos here:
http://www.groupa.ca/PR_throttle_dbw.html

Isn't that enough evidence for you?

In all seriousness you should jump over to the new/old Enginuity and help with my fueling question.

Back on topic, I could easily log/unistall/log with the TBS. Perhaps I'll get to it next weekend...

The one that Pat Olsen made was done on multiple runs with actual data points on a Dynojet (I think)...just do a search...it's under his name on this forum

lol @ EdHilario

Fella's don't mind this guy. He seems to have been quite bitter about a lot of things lately, which includes legitimate honest local businesses that once referred clientèle to him.

Ed, I haven't done a thing wrong to you so I'm not sure why you hate on me and d2 so much, and now the guys at Group A. If you really have something constructive to say I'd love to read it and see what it is, instead of your usual no content posts like "lol @ Group A dyno" and "Group A sucks balls."

What I'm saying is, if you have something bad to say about someone, you better have a reason and proof. You can't just say "oh this sucks because I say so." Show me and prove it to me. And don't even try and tell me that you had something of Group A and it didn't work - I know you'd be lying.

Also, consider the fact that what you are doing right now, is completely unethical, which kind of explains why all of a sudden no one wanted to do any business with you. You need ethics - which you have a complete lack of.

I like Group A because they provide simple parts at a reasonable price, however the Group A TBS dyno is either a total fake or it was created by a total idiot. There's a lot of strange problems with those dyno graphs that lead me to believe they were created in Excel.

If you want to see a reasoned criticism, search by my username and find the thread where I started out pro-TBS by posting those graphs, then noticed the problems, then talked about them with people smarter than me, and finally ended up where I am now, convinced TBSes don't do anything good for our cars.

So I'll repeat myself: Put a TBS in my hands and I'll give the world hard data.
