Default STis First Oil Change

Ive been doing some research on various oil topics in the threads and i have decided to not switch to synthetic until at least about 8k miles, which seems to be about where everyone is switching. But as for my very first oil change im a bit frustrated..I have called 2 dealerships near my city, one of them didnt have any Subaru motor oil in stock..and one of them had Honda oil only . So i have decided to just get some Mobil1 (non synthetic)...is this a good oil to go with on the STi or does anyone suggest anything else..oh and also the capacity is 4.2 quarts, correct ? Any input would be great, thanks guys !

I just recently spoke to SSI (Suby Solutions Inc) and Cobb Tuning and I asked them about my first oil change as well and they recommended going with Redline motor oil which is synthetic right at the first oil change.
I'm currently at 1500 miles so I'm concerned about this too! Any comments or recommendations anyone?
Thanks,

I think non synthetic for at least the first oil change seems pretty rational..the piston rings still need to form a good seal and 1500 miles arent enough. I would just change the oil...skip the synthetic for at least 5k miles (in your case) and just let the rings seat..i know its pretty paranoid but i think this would be the best route.

1) Mobil 1 is synthetic oil only, if you want a conventional oil from Mobil you'd be looking at their Mobil 5000 oil. I used the predecessor to that oil (Mobil Drive Clean 5w-30) in my STi after draining the factory fill. It sheared out-of-grade (down to a high 20-weight oil) in a short 2,500 miles. Motorcraft semi-syn 5w-30 did as well. Mobil's 7500 semi-syn 10w-30 didn't do much better.

2) If I were doing it all over again, I'd probably run Havoline 5w-30 or 10w-30 in my STi if I was looking for a quality conventional oil. I'd keep the oil-change interval to 3,000 miles or below on conventional oil, the STi (at least mine) seems to be a bit rough on conventional oils.

BTW, I finally made the switch over to a "full" synthetic oil at the 10,000 mile mark. I'm running Castrol Syntec 0w-30, based on all of the excellent UOA's on this oil, I'm expecting it to perform excellently in my STi over my planned 5,000 OCI.

I to agree that its better to go with regular oil till after 5000 miles. When you do decide to go synthetic you can't go wrong with Royal purple (can't tell if your oil is black since its purple), Mobil 1, RedLine (expensive as hell), or Castrol Syntec, either way as long as you change your oil frequently your fine with any oil. Personally I like Mobil 1 its a lot easier to get.

I switched to Mobil 1 10w30 at the first oil change(2,200 miles) and never looked back. Now have 93,000 miles running as new and measured oil consumption is 4-6 oz per 5,000 mile oil change. Oil filters are OEM or PureOne always.
