thinking about this car with 5-600 true awhp would be pretty sweet, with all the best shortblock/heads/trans and diffs combo

A built BRZ motor is better than using an STi motor. It's been shown you can make as much torque as the 2.5L with the 2L since it has direct injection, a more advanced AVCS system, etc.

However, there are some drift teams who have done EJ2xx swaps and the STI Japanese touring car uses one as well, but they are both still RWD. Given the room in the front and the layout it would be easier to put an Evo motor in one if you wanted to go AWD. There is just no room for a traditional Subaru AWD layout.

Yes, we know, this engine has high compression and you can't run much boost. Seriously though, I would really expect at a very minimum 300HP, in fact that's what most people were expecting for the base model initial launch.
Props to the people that wanted to make a kit for it, but I would have trouble justifying the type of money it takes to get a BRZ and slap a turbo on it versus buying a RWD fun car that is already pushing adaquate HP.

Am I the only one that while on a test drive thought it drove like a rental car?
Since you're so hung up on horsepower, why aren't you driving a camaro SS?

There's a lot more to this car than just HP. If the car "drove like a rental car", you're too dense to realize that, or to feel it on the test drive. I took an FR-S out on a half hour test drive and it was one of the funnest cars I've driven in a long time.

Go drive one and come back and tell me it drives like a rental car. You'll sound just as stupid as the first guy that said it.

Visconti,

Did you ever decide what the final goals were for the BRZ? Just curious about any updates.

Any concerns running a boosted setup with the 1.50 rod ratio? (if my numbers are correct: 129.3mm rod, 86mm stroke).

I believe the car referenced in this thread is still being driven, still on the stock block. Accelerated hasn't been as lively on the other boards lately since I don't think there is much going on in the winter and aftermarket engine internals are starting to really come out now.

Meanwhile there are a bunch of other turbo kits and now supercharger kits out. John I believe has been busy with the supercharger kits lately from both Vortech and Innovate. They aren't delivering earth shattering results but about 80WHP over stock (Vortech) with a decent torque bump across the whole powerband. That is with no fueling upgrades.
