Smoke test
I'm trying to find a possible vacuum leak in my car and I have heard a smoke test can help with this. What can I use to produce smoke to try this? Also, to pressurize the intake can someone direct me to some place that tells you how to build the piece you need and some basic directions on how to do it? Thank you.

it might make more sense if you bring it to a shop and pay for the smoke test. unless there is a ghetto way of smoke-testing that i don't know of, the machines that the shops use for smoke test will cost too much if you're just trying to catch one leak with it.
if you want to, you can use carb cleaner and spray along the vacuum lines or where ever you think the leak might be coming from. when the RPM's jump up a little, thats where the leak is. |

Alright, that's what I figured, I just heard that it was possible to do it with SeaFoam (IE a ghetto way) and was wondering if anyone knew any method like that but I'm just going to end up taking it to the shop anyway so thank you for the info.
About the way to pressurize the intake with the homemade device however, can you point me in the direction for that? Last edited by gecko212; 02-06-2009 at 07:17 PM. |

do you have an air compressor that can pump to 8-10 psi? because you will need one.

To find a boost leak what you can do is you a product called seafoam. Search it, but it just smokes a lot and if it comes out anywhere other then the exhaust you have a leak.
