http://falconf7.com/ I hadn't heard about this company or vehicle until last summer. This is the first time I've seen one in person. I didn't know they were designed and built within 20 minutes of my house. Pretty cool.

I don't think it is marketed or sold as a kit car. They are supposedly going to be hand built at a rate of 20 per year. You can't buy one that is incomplete and finish it yourself. It's not like the Factory Five GTM. I don't know how they get around DOT safety certifications though.

Doesn't DOT only mandate you pass safety regs and such if you sell like 500+ a year?
Also, I think scrappy just means someone who designed and built their own kit car and dropped an LS into it. Just because they're assembling it doesn't make it not a kit car. I doubt it's up to par with true OEM and probably still retains a very kit car feel. |

I'm torn here.
I love the fact that America is finally getting a "cottage industry" for cars. OTOH they are all either hideous, or unoriginal (see Eqqussuusuusssss Bass) and they are all powered by a Chevy small block |

Kestrel would be a good name
Granted it would be better applied to something more Miata sized. |

And grotesquely expensive for what they offer versus something with a real name behind it like the 458 italia.

Kudos to them for trying. While the base engine is an old trusty and crusty GM, no one can fault it for lack of performance. I actually saw the car at NAIAS in 2012 and spoke a bit with the owner. Very cool guy with a lot of passion for his car. He certainly believed in it and was super excited about its capabilities.
I'm happy that an American is getting into the supercar business and even happier that it is someone in Michigan. While the supercar skyscrapers have already been built with names like Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and so on, at one time those companies were small and new comers to the game as well (granted that for most this was 40+ years ago) but you never know, maybe in the future Falcon will be up there. Also, the kit car thing can be applied to any super car, all super cars from the Pagani Huayra to the Bugatti Veyron are built by hand with individual panels bonded together by one guy so I don't think this car is any less because of that. |

I'd like to see the US Cottage car industry try to tackle the lower echelons of the financial levels. One thing the British industry has done successfully was offer cars from the 20k's all the way up to the millions.

So you have seen all the documentation of a Pagani or Koenigsegg running through US DOT safety tests and passing? You don't have to call them a "kit" car, but unless they reach a certain production volume they fall into the same category under government regulations. Of course charging $1M for a Veyron makes it seem like something completely different from a $100k or $200k vehicle.

A major investor in this is Ken Lingenfelter (aka The Sultan of Michigan); he also plays a role in Lingenfelter performance since the death of John. So he is definitely a good person to have in the mix with this car.
If I wasn't a brand whore, this car would be on my list of cars to buy. |
