0W 20 in 2002 Forester EJ25 SOHC
I just got both headgaskets replaced in my 02 Forester.
The mechanic put full synthetic 0W 20 in the engine. The manual suggest 5W30. Is 0W20 synthetic ok?

Are you sure that's what happened or is that just on the receipt?
In short though - No 0-20 is too thin for the older EJ motors. I've seen it happen where the parts dept get into the habit of billing one type of oil and then the tech uses the proper oil from the bulk tanks. If you are sure it has the wrong oil in it, take it back and make them change it and the filter. |

No its what the mechanic put in the car. He is good with Subarus and did it on the side, not in the shop.

Ah, yea then make a trip to walmart get the old 5qt jug and a filter.
Don't want to take the chance spinning a bearing after spending the cash on the gaskets. Its it really worth the risk for $30 bucks and 20 minutes? |

Do I need to change the filter? Its a brand new Subaru filter. I was thinking of simply draining the oil pan and filling with 5w30 synthetic blend Castrol.
