Default Upgrading, accessport, stock questions

I have a few questions about what to do to my stock 08 sedan WRX. I am looking on some guidance to purchasing some upgrades. I am looking to so something to my car that isn't going to change the reliability and longevity of my car. It has 81k miles on it and is completely stock. If there is a thread on this please just post links. Iv searched and read around and haven't found anything that I am looking for.
I am looking to get the Cobb accessport V2 and was wondering what the port will do to my stock car in reliability, I already know it will change the amount of hp and the way the car runs. Im just looking for some more direction on what will happen. Also if there is a thread for the Stage 1-3 levels and what they really mean that would help.

Hmmm. I think you really need to start by reading the stickies. Especially this one:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=533787

Spend some time searching around all of the different forum stickies, there's a lot of info out there.

An Accessport can be a very reliable mod, u just need to make sure you have the right map installed in it for whichever other aftermarket mods you plan on doing. The Cobb website has a good explanation of their stage 1-3. Go from there.

You could either use a tactrix cable or the Accessport to tune your car, but the cable would require you to use a laptop to do logs on your car. As far as tunes go, I suggest using Torqued performance. Eric runs that site and his maps are SO much better than COBBs because he will tune more specifically for your car, whereas the COBB maps are more generic to suit all climates. Stage 1 is a downpipe, stage 2 is an added exhaust and maybe a new intake, and stage 3 is typically a turbo swap. Once you plan on going stage 3, you should talk to your tuner about what upgrades he/she is most experienced with. Happy modding!

Stage 1 is simply an ECU tune
Stage 2 is a downpipe and an ECU tune

Any other "stages" after that are open to interpretation. You will find numerous definitions for "Stage 3" and beyond.

The ONLY thing you were right about was Stage 3. Otherwise you are WRONG. Don't post if you don't know.

Anyone else agree with going with Torqued tuning over Cobb?

Give Eric a call at TP. http://torquedperformance.com/contactus.sc
He is a friendly and knowledgeable guy. He is more than willing to answer any questions you have about your car.

I'd look at it this way, these cars aren't cheap. Are you really wanting to trust your investment with what some random people on the internet say? If you start blindly throwing money at your car with mods people tell you to do, then you will not be happy.

If you are wanting to blindly follow what someone says then yes. As you can see to the left I am running a TP stage 1 tune on my '11 STI. I did it for multiple reasons, mainly I didn't like my logs from the OTS Cobb tunes. For my car they had some knock, and all Cobb can say is try a lower or higher Wastegate Duty Map. No Thanks. So I contacted Eric and bothered him over the phone and emails for some time. He answered all my questions and I trusted him as a tuner.
I feel my car runs a hell of a lot smoother than the stock maps. Comparing my Cobb Stage 1 logs to my TP logs I am very happy with how it runs. I feel it was a great decision for the overall health of my car.

Search around on here, there are plenty of satisfied customers with Eric's maps.

Yessir. You could also buy the stage 1 + 2 combo pack if you plan on doing more upgrades down the road. Make sure you email/call eric after doing some logs so he can help you fine tune the map!

You don't need to purchase the AP. Eric also has OpenSource tunes done through your laptop and a Tactrix cable.

Check his website again
http://torquedperformance.com/main.sc
The left white box is for AccessPort maps, the right white box is for OpenSource Tactrix cable users.

The difference between the AP and Opensource is the AP is more compact and doesn't require you to have your laptop in the car to log. That is about it.

Seriously, contact Eric if you are this unsure of how this works.
