Default Spring Dragon meet... the NOT official thread

Ok guys,

It's time to begin planning for the Spring Dragon meet. We WILL be making this the largest Subaru meet of it's kind, EVER. Official invitations will go out from the SE forum to all the surrounding regions and to the I-club at large. We may even extend invitations to some of the regional clubs for BMW, Audi, and VW if you guys think it'd be a good idea. We may even run a complete registration with prepayment for the event and lodging.

I will be planning out several routes for the first day that we will take in caravan if folks are interested. The purpose of the route will be both as a KICKASS drive but also as a way to gradually increase the difficulty level through the day so people don't get all excited and wreck on their first trip through the Gap. The route will start with the Cherohala Skyway going west from the Robbinsville area, then transition onto either a series of gravel mountain roads or onto some country highways, and then come BACK across the Dragon to the Fontana/Robbinsville area again. COMPLETE route maps with turn information will be provided to all participants. I'll need some feedback on this particular idea during the planning stage.

My plan is to possibly reserve the ENTIRE Tapoco Lodge for us. If I can negotiate a good rate and we have enough people, we could very well end up spending less to do that (per person) than we did last year at Fontana Village. Plus, we'd have a restaurant and a swimming pool right there to serve us.

The BIG QUESTION is the date! I'm thinking late April or early May would be best, but it's completely dependent on what you guys think. Any suggestions?

Oops, scratch the Tapoco Lodge idea. It's more pricey than I thought. I'll still call them up and inqure though...

Fontana is still a great place to stay, and we had a good experience with the MicroTel Inn in Robbinsville on this last miniDragon meet.

Sounds great to me. FYI a bunch of roadsters will be up there the weekend of April 19-21 (http://pub42.ezboard.com/froadsterch...opicID=4.topic). I'm up for pretty much anytime myself.

Well porter you know I cant wait!!! Here are my opinions.. I think it should be a subaru only meet, that way we get to meet each other and it doesnt turn into my miata is better then you subaru kinda pissing contest....

I think where we stayed last time was great, but I know myself a Xeno where talking about staying at the cabins that were near the dam, they were really nice !!!! I actually liked the other cabins, minus the piss coverd beds and the bug infestation Besides the russin chicks were cute

I think April 27-29th is a good date, that way us Florida people can leave on the 26th and have the whole weekend to hang around up there..

I dont know who is making all the plans this year, but I am willing to help orginize florida's members if need be..

Yeah so instead of it being "my miata is better than your subaru" it can be "my WRX is better than your 2.5RS". J/K. I have a couple of friends who want to drive the dragon real bad after reading about it. If its gonna be Subaru only I have no problem at all, but if its not it would be great too. I don't think its about braggin rights at all, just a chance to go out test your driving skill and have some fun. And please remind me NOT to let Porter drive my car, I like my brakes

I don't think it should be subaru only. Its gonna be majority subarus anyways but if you have friends with other cars why shouldn' they be able to come?

I'm going to get in touch with some folks out of ATL and see if they'd be up to doing this journey. They're VW/Audi people and love doing this stuff. In fact, 2 yrs ago I went in a convoy of about 30 cars to Bald Mtn in GA with them and they were nutz. I bet they might want to get together as well.

cpages/Mike- How far from our area? I'm THINKING about going, but I think I'm going to have to use all of my alotted vacay time for a trip to Texas (and Cobb Tuning's home office!!!) and a trip to the Canadian GP. Am also going to try and attend a Panoz three-day sometime next year as well.

NO NO NO, you guys took what I said wrong.. Im not saying "SUBARU ONLY"... What I meant is I think it should just be our club, and yes other people can come if there your friends or family.. I mean for instance subaby, structure828 & Joe G are coming and between them its 1 honda and 2 nissans.

When I said that. I meant I think it should be i-Club members and friends and family.. I dont think it should be I-Club, Miata Club, etc.....

I just think we should have one big meet with just us up there.. That way its a little more personal when its just Subaru fans, I mean there is still going to be the WRX vs 2.5 nagging but in the end we all love the same thing!!!!!!! SUBARU

I just read the entire thread about the now passed DRAGON run.

If there are any FLORIDA people going, count me in(assuming I have picked up my WRX by then)

I'm in Daytona Beach, so I am willing to meet up wherever you all want. I notice most of you look to be in the tampa/clearwater area, which is only about 2 hours from here.

anyway, I'll be checking back in here often, and praying that i can get a chance to go

Thumbs up

You know I'm in!!!!! I say we get the cabins in the back lot like we had the last time, but reserve the whole area as not to disturb any neighbors. The cabins would be our best bet so we could have a fire and shoot the poop plus be able to work on our cars if need be. I will probably take my vacation time for this event. I may make a big road trip out of it and cruise around to different areas picking up other people along the way... who knows. I just want to enjoy myself and not have to worry about work for once. Let's get this together ASAP. You may want to have this added as a sticky so we won't lose track of the thread.

Later,
Jason

yeah Ryan, no late, 3am entry this time and you can't leave at 12 the next day. You better plan ahead or else... we know where you live.

That was some crazy poop with the chair..lol, or how about the porch support from the cabin next door that was used for the fire? Ahhh what memories. Speaking of Larry... has anyone seen or heard from him lately? Last I spoke to him was right after the Dragon meet when he had his Cobb cam put in.

I am ready for this to happen!!!

It was 4am get it right. And Grimlock kept me up the rest of the night. SOB! Don't worry about it.

This time I am driving out there with someone or a caravan. I am not getting stuck in those deliverence type woods again all by myself.

As for Larry he came over to do his breaks shortly after the dragon. Haven't heard from him since though. I have tried to get in touch but he hasn't returned calls or emails.

Count me in guys. I'm finally starting to get aquainted with the WRX...trying to do as much wet weather drifting as I can!

I can only do the weekend and possibly a Friday or Monday. Anytime after end of Feb. would be cool.

Im there.

Fontana Village.
They also have hotel rooms with 1 or 2 queen size beds. So the early to bed early to rise people can enjoy the party then go to a quiet room and sleep.

Friday has the least traffic. Saturday can be slow and crowded.
