Auto Insurance Question:
I am shopping for new car insurance. My policy expires 11/2 and have a few questions.
I have been under my parents insurance since I've owned the car. Progressive asks me if I have made any claims in the past 35 months. In 2002, I lost control of the car and hit a guard rail. Therefore, we made a claim. Will the insurance company be able to see this claim if it was under my parents insurance to which I am a driver on? Since I am shopping for auto insurance just for myself, do I need to include this claim if it was under my dad's policy? I am having trouble answering this question. How are claims recorded and what can the insurance company you are looking to get insured by does it see?

I do not know anything about auto insurance considering I do not have a license yet (January 6th). But I believe you might want to include your age. That might help a bit. Just an idea.

even if the insurance company could not (for whatver reason) find out about that claim, but they will know you did have an accident from the DMV files (unless an accident report was not filed)

i was with geico under my parents policy, and when i bought my car i went to state farm since they had a cheaper rate. they knew my whole record from geico, and for some reason they knew my brother's record also.

yes, either way they are going to find out, its in the insurance instiutes data base under your DL number if you made a claim, im sure it was over 500 bucks so its defintly a chargable accident.
1 claim shouldnt bother your rates too much, tell them, dont tell them, when they process your quote they will find out either way. Jay |

well the claim happened on 12/24/01 and it was not reported as an accident since no police officer showed up. Of course i filed the claim and the type of loss was a Collision to the Front.
Is that considered as Accident - At Fault ? |

Accidents are supposed to fall off your DMV record after 3 years (at least in CA), meaning you're coming up on a clear record. If you renew now, you'll get charged for that accident until your next renewal.
Oh, and do NOT go with Progressive. If you happen to wreck again, they will screw you. Progressive is horrible. |

if yoru insurance company paid more than 500 bucks to fix the car it will show up, and yes it will be an at fault accident. you can fill out the quote form however you want, the more specific you are the more accurate your quote will be. Once they run your driving history they will reavalute the quote and make the neccasary adjustments to the premium. why not just get a plan with geico? Jay |

When they run the Choicepoint report they will see ya driving history.
Choicepoint sucks, I know ive been battling them for months cause their claiming I was at fault for a $10,000 accident, even though my insurance company has e-mailed, faxed, called, and informed them I wasn't. |

IIRC Progressive purposely only holds incidents again you for 35 months, just for that reason.

I have progressive and I can tell you for sure they hold all accidents/tickets for 39 month against you (and they even use the date when you are convicted of the ticket, not the date the offense happened)
