Only comprehensive coverage.

Yeah, comprehensive glass is mandatory in MA, so if she's insured in MA, she can just have it replaced and it'll be billed to the insurance company.

If she has progressive there's a 100$ deductible on glass

$0 deductible on glass is NOT mandatory in MA, contrary to popular belief. However, most policies automatically include it.

You're almost right: glass coverage comes with comprehensive in MA, but comprehensive is not mandatory.

gustavito63007: how big is the crack? I got a bulls eye right in my line of sight the day before going for a sticker, they didn't mention it. And the $10 glass repair kits from the parts store do a decent job on smaller issues.

rule of thumb is that if the crack is directly in the line of site and bigger than a dollar it's a safety hazard and a do not pass....but as always it depends on the inspector

It cracked on the passenger side, and in a vertical crack. It's no where in line of site, and it's to big to actually do the kit as looked into that. As for her insurance, when she had geico, I guess the windshield was nt included in her coverage. She has progressive now.

Can anyone offer a place to go get her inspection, which might be "lenient", She s from new Bedford/fair haven area.

BUMP

Not trying to beat a dead horse here, but I am considering a COBB AP stage 2 tune with a COBB catted 3" DP, Stromung intermediate pipe, and Prodrive axleback for my '06 9-2X Aero ('06 WRX). MA definitley changed their OBDII inspection parameters in the last year or so making an emissions pass more difficult (hence some of the older threads/posts that I have searched regarding this topic may no longer be valid). Can anyone confirm 100% that they have gotten a passing sticker this year, 2013, with a setup like this, or at least with a tune and 3" catted DP? I'm just looking for a first-hand, definitive answer. Thanks in advance.

Where are you getting this info? MA doesn't control the ODBII settings, if the CEL isn't on (and wasn't just reset) you pass.

No CEL and readiness monitors all "ready" = pass on the emissions pending the safety and visual.

I apologize, incorrect wording. I should have said "requirements" instead of "parameters".

Correct, and additionally from what I read on the MA RMV site, "2001 and newer model year vehicles may have a maximum of one (1) “not ready” non-continuous monitor". However, it doesn't mention which monitors can test as "not supported" which I am looking to verify if the AP changes any of them to.

So what happens when you have the SPT exhaust, louder than normal, factory installed?

Maybe it's just me, on any of my cars I've never been really visually inspected. They ask for my tint waiver, make sure my lights are clean. That's about it. Never lift or look under the car for exhaust. Never check ride height. Maybe around here it's just not as serious as the state would prefer? Idk.

They never visually inspected any of my cars until my exhaust on my old forester got louder. This was due to a combination of bottoming out on part of my road (I live in the boonies) and a gasket that disintegrated.

The funny thing was that all they seemed to care about was puzzling over why I had about 6 muffler clamps around my cats with finishing nails jammed under them (to stop heat shields from resonating/rattling). They paid no attention to the blatant exhaust leak from the failed gasket and cracked pipe because they couldn't see it.

So.... I think (hope) that if you dont have an exhaust that wakes up your neighbors they probably wont look, and if you have some sort of cats for them to look at, they probably wont care/know the difference. Unless they own a subie, and then they probably will pass you just for that reason. Ill be at stage at the end of next year so I hope this stays true.

Dealership will probably be stricter. Also, its amazing what leaving a 30rack/having some work done at a local garage will do for you.

well, i just did my annual inspection last month through my dealership, in conjuction w/ my 15k service.

i'm stage 2, 3" turbo back... cobb catted DP and Greddy SP Elite CBE... no issues...

i don't really see an issue unless your running something REALLY LOUD... like a N1 or straight pipes.

we have some stupid as laws, but unless you go full retard on the so-called nanny state "illegal" mods... i.e. 5% tint, catl-ess, lowered to ricer hell, PnP HID kits with orange/purple bulbs and throwing CEL's... you SHOULD be okay. it's a balance.

in mass i never had trouble with inspections running stage 2 with 3 inch turbo back (highflow cat) modded more after even had and external wastegate dumping out to the atmosphere. most inspections the guy working would complement me on the car and talk for a while. as long as you dont have a check engine light you should be good.

I have a tuned sti engine , Cobb DP + 3" catted catback and APS uppipe, which isn't all that crazy loud. I was just rejected from 3 shops in W. Roxbury (BP station at Center St., McKraken Shell, CITGO on Washington st.). They told me my exhaust would be too loud and that Boston had cracked down on them the last 6 months.

McKraken did my inspection last year without a problem with the same exhuast, but told me they had two counts against them and didn't want to lose their license. CITGO said the city was on their asses for suspension, tint, exhaust etc.

So I guess I'm going to get inspected outside the city somewhere :\

City Side Subaru in Belmont. it's kind of a hike / PITA to get there during the week.

they don't actually inspect cars, they take them down the street to a mom and pop gas station.

I went there because my service was due and that's where i purchased the car.

*this is just my experience. to the naked eye, my car looks stock except for the roof rack, mud flaps, tints and boxer rumble. YMMV.

your right next door to me, try shops around Lynn and Salem. most don't really give a damn. most people that i know fail due to tints, extra-loud exhaust and purple PnP HID's.

Just take it somewhere before its expired and ask if they will pass it with the windshield as is. I think you are making a bigger deal out of this than needed.

Anyone know of any shops that will pass a borderline tint? It's supposed to 35% but it registers as 30-33% due to factory tint....

If it meters 32 or higher 99 times out of 100 it'll pass no problems.

Someone just posted a question in an old thread, and you just answered him seriously?
