2011 Impreza Wrx Virtual Dyno question?
Why do my numbers seem high for just dp, intake and axle back with cobb tune stage 2 tune? I did 3 separate logs and i added 250 lbs to car because of me and other junk in my car. I bought my car used so I dont know if it has any internal work done
edit: this was done on the straightest road i can possibly find

Try a smoothing of 3 or 4. If the #'s change drastically between 1 and max smoothing than the log could have been poor (bad road etc). Just taking a guess. Plus I thought VD was comparable to a dynojet which reads higher than other dynos such as mustang dynos. But increases from here on will be relative, the dynojets just give higher base #'s I.e. if you added elh and gained 25 who you actually gained that much.

Do your pulls from 2000 to 7000
Use 4th gear if possible Use the most level piece of road possible Use the most accurate weight possible Use the actual diameter of the tires Turn off fast polling if using romraider logger |

If car is WRX dyno it in 3rd gear, STI dyno in 4th. Doesn't really matter gear as HP should be the same, only trq will be affected since spoolup in lower gear will be slower.
Don't use fast polling as for some reason it makes the dyno software read high. My car at 380whp read roughly 430whp on fast polling. For dyno purposes turn it off. When logging make sure the road is flat and no dips or bumps. Keep the wheel straight. The program works well, if used correctly. On my car when it had stock turbo the program was consistent between 325-330whp and it dyno'd 321 whp. |

Not true. VD can read either dynojet or mustang. The mustang dyno reads 14% lower on this software than the dynojet. But in real world most claim that the new calibration by mustang puts it roughly 5% lower than dynojet. DSport did a comparsion of dynos where they used there in house dynojet and compared it to other dynos using an EVO(supra also but that changes the outcome since it RWD) with high and low boost settings. They used Cobbs mustang dyno and it read higher than a dynojet. Both dynos were SAE corrected for an equal comparsion. According to that test RWD vs AWD dynos had different results. The mustang read low when Supra was used, but when the dyno was put in AWD mode it actually was slightly higher. The old theory of mustang reading about 13% lower than dynojet is history. Today's calibration has put them almost on the same playing field. Also a lot of tuner's nowadays like to recalibrate there dyno to their own settings and who knows how they compare even against the same dyno. As far as I know dynojet can't be self calibrated, so they should all read very close to each other as long as atmosphere conditions are entered correctly. The only thing to watch for on dynojet is people like to use standard correction sometimes and that reads higher than SAE correction.

Cobb software reads notoriously high. My stage 2 gets extremely different readings on the same road within minutes of each other. I got 355whp then 320whp and I got two readings of 310whp. When I was stage 1 I got 452whp and I laughed at that one.
The only way you'll really know how far off your software is would be to get it on a real dyno and compare. |

Stick it on real dyno.
Also try using weather corrections, cause cold air will make more power. Put in the real baro and temp along with correct tire size and any weight including yourself. See if that makes any difference. |

with any of the dyno software you must be able to replicate exactly as in exact same stretch of road in same direction, same temp etc. Otherwise you can get some varying numbers. Take the VD and just use it to make sure you are making a difference if you're tuning or changing parts. Other than that consider it just like every other dyno in the world in that its different than every other dyno especially if you don't have the same environment for each pull.

Post up the logs you used to make the graph, I'll run them through mine and see what happens.

Here you go. This seems a little more reasonable. See how yours says "Dyno Jet" at the top? This increases the numbers by 9%. To fix that, go to File > Options > Dyno > Virtual Dyno Correction Factor = Virtual Dyno
Here's what I got. I also included the 250lbs you mentioned, and as you are in the tri-state, I estimated that your ambient temps were around 35* Smoothing of 6 shows 285 HP and 280 TQ. I took a look at your log and you run less boost than I do, but more timing in the upper RPM range (which is likely why you have more HP than TQ - it is reversed for me). http://i.imgur.com/5Z4nkzm.png |
