Since then, production molds have been built and the tech/R&D team has been building an all-new car that will serve as the first 818C model. Here are some photos of the first part out of the mold. We have decided to make some minor changes to the part, but these pictures give a good idea of what the final shape will be. The production car will be unveiled at our summer Open House on June 13th here in Wareham, MA.

Pricing is still not finalized, but will be announced at our Open House when we introduce the car.

The 818C shape was made by Jim in R&D and John in Shaping

The hard top is a removable part that replace the rear deck panel and includes a glass hatch and glass quarter windows. The glass hatch in the photo above is the plug that was made for the glass molds. DOT compliant glass is being made by our supplier.

The 818C follows the 818R and the 818S models. One of the biggest advantages of the 818 is that, with a body that is made of smaller panels, we are able to change body styles with a minimum of effort. This makes the 818 a very flexible platform, and a fun car to build because it can be upgraded and changed easily.

Rear spoiler options are not finalized yet.

Almost everyone who has visited the company remarks how the 818 is much more dramatic and aggressive in real live versus in photographs. The 818C has a very aggressive stance.

The 818C hard top is designed to retro-fit to all current 818S models. It will not fit the 818R.

The 818C design includes the following features:
Power side windows
Rear quarter glass and side-vented engine bay
Hinged rear glass hatch
Inner bulkhead with rear window
Inner hard top linear with air intake duct to engine bay
Comes with front windshield glass

You will still need a 2002-2007 WRX motor, however there is an adapter for the STi 6spd trans now.

High school kid produced, prototype hardtop on an older cat, but it gives you a rough i dea what it should look like.

Quote:
I traveled to the 2015 Green Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International Raceway with Factory Five crew members Jim Schenck and Kyle Barros to provide support to an exciting team from West Philly High School. Instructor Simon Hauger and his kids at West Philly High School built a Factory Five 818 powered by a turbo-diesel engine running on doughnut oil!
This team has competed in two previous Green Grand Prix’s and was also a finalist in the Progressive Insurance X-Prize competition with a Factory Five GTM.
This year’s format includes rally style lap times that reward drive consistency, and a strict measurement of fuel to determine mileage. The West Philly Team entered their car in the non-hybrid class. Results are not tabulated yet, but the Factory Five 818 powered by a modified Volkswagen TDI engine producing 180 HP and 290 lb.-ft. of torque (!) delivered a jaw-dropping 110 MPG at an average speed of 45 MPH on the track! Simon predicts this car would deliver between 70-75 MPG in street use! At 1,800 lbs. and with 180 HP (and more importantly 290 lb.-ft. of torque!), the car is still very, very fast.
We will have more details on the car and the exciting day on the track. Here are some photos from the event. Note: The Factory Five 818 shown here has the first prototype hard top. The modified 818C will debut at our summer Open House in June.

Simon Hauger (second from left) and his students from West Philly High School who built the car.

Simon and his kids brought the car from their school shop in Philadelphia.

Factory Five President Dave Smith spent the first track session with Simon working to determine the most efficient line around the track and rally time points.

Simon successfully completed 30 of 31 laps within the required time period.

Factory Five Racing molding manager Kyle Barros (right) and Director of R&D Jim Schenck (left) were on hand to see how the new hard top would perform.

Ummmm... I think that blue car is a but ugly. I know I may get flogged for saying it. But it looks too much like a Del Sol

I don't think they took enough photos of the right side of the car.

Seriously though, hard to tell much from these photos. 4/5 are the exact same angle. The one photo from the front looks really good. I don't think the awful blue color and grand moms wheels are doing it any favors.

Okay, mabey not exactly, but it looks like a thrown together kit car. Which is what I hate about almost all kit cars except a Meyers Manx and a Cobra replica and maybe a few 356 speedsters

I've seen Meyers Manx's they all look like kit cars.
Really there isn't much complicated bodywork to copy to replicate a Cobra or a 356 speedster.
As I stated earlier this car was put together by high school kids.
It's an older body with a prototype hard top.
It looks nothing like a Del Slo.

meh to each their own

A cobra is far from uncomplicated. Curves are not easy to get right. But it is irrelevant. The 818 is Not an attractive car, and I do not see them stealing sales from other kit/track cars.

Wow! They really sorted out a lot of the ugly, looks pretty amazing. Wonder about space inside for helmeted tall people.

And the FFR thread suggests the STI trans will now fit.

It looked great in person. Big improvement over the convertible. There's a full gallery here:
