Couple Qs about the 08...
Well I just got an 08 WRX. I want to put HIDs on it but I was wondering if the DRL will cause something to go wrong. I thinking not but safety first .
Also what is the difference between a Turbo-Back and a Cat-Back? Thanks!

Turbo back has aftermarket downpipe...catback uses stock cat/downpipe.

aftermarket dp+aftermarket cat back=turbo back. Doesn't matter if it has cats or not, thats for you to decide.

you would want to disconect the DRL the lower voltage on the DRL circuit will mess things up. HID's need a good 12v's for the initial start up

Disable your DRL's. Drop in some 2008 STI HID's. Plug and play. That was my first mod and it was really easy. Only problem is finding 2008-09 STI headlights for less than $1200. Check people who work with insurance reclamations. I got mine from a guy on here for $475 that were off an '08 STI that got rear-ended with only 500 miles on the odometer. Plus, they'll be super easy to resell if you ever get rid of your car.

I don't think you guys know what I am trying to say
Ok, the DRLs run on the high beam bulbs..Right? I want to get HIDs for the LOW BEAM. My question is Will the DRLs interfere the LOW BEAMs when the HIDs come on? I myself don't think so, but then again I am not to sure. Better safe than sorry. |

Just disconnect the DRL's you will have no problems with the HID's.
Nice to see you made it over here. |

disabling your drl would be wise if you like your hid kit
my corolla's started flickering with drl so i had to disable (it was annoying and im sure the bulb did not like flickering either) |

Not for the OP, but for future knowledge.....
When you install a retro or a kit Xenon lights, just use a relay to power the ballast. That way the ballast always gets 12v when signal is sent to it (DRL or normal headlight). No flicker...no damaged expensive lights |

Easiest way to remember...
Turbo Back = Goes from the turbo to the tail pipe. Hence turbo back.... Cat Back = Goes from the catalytic converter back. Hence cat back.... Whether you use a aftermarket highflow cats or no cats isnt part the equation. The difference is where the pipe starts. Since the cats are in the downpipe (pipe that connects the turbo to the cat back section) thats they pipe that makes the difference between a turbo back and cat back.... See what I'm saying? Turbo back = downpipe + cat back.... |
