The JDM double din bezel eliminates those gaps! but the camera is covered though, not sure if thats a deal breaker for anyone.
you will have to do some minor trimming to the tabs which hold the air vent in place, either for the stock bezel and the JDM version. I checked both.
Dont mind the fingerprints !

rube23 - that's awesome news! I was wondering if the overall height would work with the JDM panels. No need for me to wonder now

Here are the dimensions in case anyone needs them. We have plenty of every color in stock, plus a new faux carbon piece (not on the site yet)!

Interesting! Do you ship to Canada? I'd definitely consider returning the double DIN kit I got and buying one of these instead...

Thanks, PM'd you right back.

Anyone know the difference between the Subaru of America bezel and the Japanese ones? Any difference apart from color?

the Subaru of Japan Double DIN AV Panel Black Silver has a nice thin black rubberized coating on it and is silver painted on the edges....thats the one in my pic above. I think thats the best looking one.

rube23 is exactly correct. The only difference is the texture. The JDM unit has the thin rubberized matte finish, whereas the US version has a semi gloss finish (not rubberized).

If you send me an email address I can send over the carbon photos tonight.

This is awesome, wonder how this would work in a '12 Impreza. It amazes me just how ****ty car audio headunits are out there in terms of UI. Wish a company would take the tablet market and integrate that into headunits.

could you use the first dash piece and fit a regular ipad back there? so the opening would be mostly screen?

just a hypothetical

and im guessing you could do something similar with a ipad mini (same dimensions as a nexus 7)

when you installed the jvc head unit did you have to get a install kit for that? like the slide in bracket thingy?

i have 08 STi so no phone option so if i did this i woundnt have to worry about that part i would just want it for touch screen.

Nope It's just sitting there. I didn't want it to be flush with the bezel so an install kit would have just gotten in the way. There's support in the enclosure for it so it's just lying there. Keeping it simple!

Does anyone know if there is a way to keep the headunit controls without having a headunit hidden somewhere? I am planning on doing this, but I already have amps from a previous install so I was planning to just wire the nexus directly to an amp.

Also are there any ideas on how to integrate a backup camera into a Nexus setup like this?

i know on the 06-07 there was specific kit set up you could buy that held an ipad and then you mounted the headunit where the clock was. check if someone makes an alternate mounting place for headunits.

i would think you would have to run the nexus through the headunit through the amps to the speakers.

you would have to check the specs of the nexus if it allowed incoming video and buy the proper cord.

He could do it with out the radio. I did a similar setup with the original Ipad. Used an Ipad to RCA cable, ran that to a six channel equalizer, then from there to two amps(one for sub the other for components) then to the speakers. It gives you tons of control and a solid setup.

So I take it your tablet has cellular service since it is downloading from the cloud? When you pair your phone are you pairing with the tablet or to the headunit? It will be a pain to pair to the headunit since you have to pull the dash apart to access the buttons (i guess you would only have to do this once though). It would also be a pain if you actually use the normal radio since you wouldn't have access to preset buttons which I guess your steering wheel controls would scroll through but if you ever pull your battery and lose your presets then you have to pull the dash again.

Idk I see positives and negatives, but whats important is that it works for how you want to use it.

He has his cell phone's data plan teethered to his tablet. Easy to do with free apps from the market.

Also- if you want Radio on tablet- IheartRadio, TuneIn or other apps provide live audio feeds on 1000s of stations as well

But, overall, this is great. Wish I had $$ to buy a Nexus 7. My Touchpad (with Android on it) is too big 10"

- Tablet is auto-paired to phone via BlueTooth as soon as they are within range. Phone calls and texts are displayed on the tablet (app is called TabTalk). That also gives the tablet full internet using the phone's data plan.

- My phone is paired to the headunit using BlueTooth as well. This lets the call's audio go to the head unit. Once they are paired you never need to touch the headunit again.

- Normal radio is done using TuneIn radio on Android.

I don't see any negatives

Definitely thought about this, but without the headunit you would lose two things:
- Handsfree Bluetooth calling
- Steering wheel controls
