STI OEM Oil Cooler in 02 WRX possible?
I'm getting my 02 WRX motor ready for my swap and I bought a new oil cooler. It looks like I received an 08-11 oil cooler instead of the 02 one. The 08-11 cooler is bigger than the 02 one, but it has the water lines in different spots and the metal line from the water pump will not match up.
If I wanted to run the upgraded year one, would it be as easy as just getting that year's line? Has anyone done this before? Thanks. 02 WRX oil cooler 08-11 oil coooler |

If the hardware fits and the only issue is the hose, use a longer hose and eliminate the metal tube and two of the four clips.
I did. |

To call the newer one an "upgraded" one is laughable. If you want a real upgrade, get a standalone. Odds are your need neither as you are only supposed to be concerned about this if you have reason to be concerned. What are your oil temps? Do you know what the oil temp sweet spot is? Did you know running oil cooler than desired is bad?

I'm not sure Unabomber since the motor is on the engine stand. Besides, I'm not going to follow any of your advice since your last clutch advice was to say the least, crap.

The thermal rejection difference will be quite minimal to be honest between the 2 units.
If your oil temps are issue/ want to avoid oil cooling issues consider doing a external oil cooler. Kirill RallySportDirect.com |
