2002 RS Mods: Intake, Sway bar, Foglights, Security System, Exhaust, etc.
My cousin just got a 2002 Blue Ridge Pearl RS (My favorite color out of all the new-Impreza colors, Im soooo jeleous! )
Anyway... Hes somewhat interested in doing some small mods to his car, but neither he nor I have much experience (but we have friends ), and money IS a factor... This should probably be in technical somewhere, but there is so much here that is not to "technical" and more like "Nobody knows this stuff yet" info gathering... (So please dont move it yet moderators! ) #1- Foglights: His heart is dead set on foglights, and he even worked them into his deal for getting them at cost. Anyone have any clue as to whether the car is pre-wired, and how hard this procedure will be? BTW, the foglight covers are suprizingly hard to take off! We tried to take out the screw and see whats under these things, but theres some slits or something that go up into the fender to keep in in place... We stoped messing around with it after we saw this #2- Air Filter: I know all about the nice and cheap yet effective K+N and other "drop-in" air filters for like $40. How hard is this install? What are the EXACT benifits with the 2.5 engine? Anyone know how simular the 2002 RS is to the 2001 and earlier models? #3- Sway Bar: He doesnt know it now, but hes going to want the bigger sway bar farther down the road... (still in the break in period btw) How much, how hard, and which ones will work for the RS? I know the WRX sway bar will fit, but its got rubber bushings and is like $150... Any better options out there? #4- Security System: I heard this is a nice easy plug in after you take off the console cause its all pre-wired. How much does the unit cost? Where are the screws in the console? What else is required? #5- Exhaust: This is mostly for me. Is the new RS using the same pipe/exhaust configuration as the last RS, or is it closer to the WRX? Do you think the aftermarket WRX STi exhaust would work for this car? #6- Tires: I already told him about the RE92 deficiancies, and I know that the RE730 is a great upgrade for all around driving. How much can he get them for, where, and what is the exact model number for the WRX/RS/New Impreza? Thanks to everyone in advance! I hope this topic helps alot of folks and not just me and my cousin

Wow - too many questions.
#1 - don't know #2 - the same filter as the 2000/01 fits the 2002, I sell both AMSOIL and K&N at a great price at www.imprezars.com/products.htm - they allow the car to breath in more air and make more power, and in the long runs are cheaper to maintain than a disposable paper filter. #3 through #5 - duh... I need to crawl under an RS at the dealership... #6 - everyone who has tried Kumho Ecsta and has tried my RE730's feels the RE730 stick better. They are under $110 each from www.tirerack.com but I go a local firestone dealer to price match them for me. #7 - Intakes - you didn't ask about this, but it looks like the Version 5 GanzFlow will fit! I played with one at the local dealership this week. The 2002 RS has a wiring harness running inside the front hole in the inner fender where the intake goes, which can be lifted out of the way so the intake can go into the hole past the wires. Just don't push the edge of the intake's opening against the wires, it needs to go past the wires so they are off to the side of the intake as it goes into the inner fender. Larry www.ImprezaRS.com |

I am 99.9% sure it will fit a 2002RS, and will take it back if it doesn't - it is $109.95 shipped to the continental US, and an extra $12 for Canada, PR, Hawaii, and Alaska.

Wow saw the new RS with the fog light covers. Look much better without the fogs IMHO. So STi like too...
Go wtih Ganzflow. It's cheap and it works well. Not sure about sway bar as the overall 02 RS is much different than the GC8 RS. Drive around it first. If it's still understeering real bad, then go for one. |

Well, just change the suspension stuff to WRX wagon instead of WRX sedan and it works
