I'm running some Image Dynamic 6.5 all around and get good bass and high response from them. They are running off a Alpine PDX F4.

Now that is news to be excited about. Spend a day or 2 listening to the stock system though first for comparison, the speakers sound great with aftermarket HU.

No I know I definitely won't be spending that kind of money on the Kappas. The whole point of this was really to get a feel for what people like, the different setups, experiences / advice / opinions, whatever. So all of these responses have seriously helped me out in that regard.

I've been making a better effort to get out and listen to as many of these as I can... Don't think that I've heard anything that comes close to comparing to the JL C5 650s, so I think that's what I'm going to do after Christmas when I finally get my expenditures back under control again. The holidays always suck when you're itching to buy parts for your car

There is NO bass, far far less than the stock speakers and the treble is harsh. This is both off stock radio, upgraded HU, and also tried with the infinity kappa five channel amp.

Junk..

This is the best they have ever sounded.. small enclosure, bass jacked all the way up on the amp.
Video Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOUN5vQS1gw

When they were in my car I had to build mini 6.5" midbass subs for under the seats to make up for their shortcomings.
I have to disagree. I am running the Kappa 6.1 components and they sound amazing.
No bass? Incorrect.
Tuned and set up properly, they are a great set of speakers.
NOT tuned and set up properly, junk/garbage, as you say.

This is not a personal attack. Just defending the speakers.

More about the M Series setup in the Wrangler, please and thanks.

There are more than a few people that are not all that impressed with the Kappa 1.6's. Nothing against anyone that runs them, but in my opinion they just aren't up-to-par with other brands / components that I've heard.

I had CDT components in my last car run off of a JL Audio 5 channel amp, they were great sounding speakers.
Currently I am running a Pioneer AVH8400P head unit, with Focal K2 Power 165K2P-UV 6.5" components in the front. The I run CDT Audio M6 Mid-Bass/Sub-Bass Drivers for mid bass support. A 10" Morel Ultimo Sub in a custom enclosure rounds out my speaker selection. For amplification I went with a JL Audio MDH900/5. This system sounds great but costs a bundle.

hallelujah! I've been waiting for someone to say this. I'm so glad to finally hear someone with personal experience. The magnet on this speaker is super thick for a reason. Also these speakers are 100W speakers so if you amp only delivers 75W or less you probably won't be getting the full benefit of them. It's the same thing with the stock HU + Stock speakers. The reason the OEM speakers don't sound so good is because the OEM HU isn't giving it enough juice. Luckily the JBL-MSA1004 delivers full 100W on all 4 channels

Yeah, it is all too common for someone to just buy a set of speakers, throw them in, adjust their EQ and say " OMGWTF these speakers suck". You need to know how to set up and tune your system. Period.

The next time someone tells you they are not impressed, ask them how they have them installed. The Kappa 6.1's are designed to be mounted in kick panels with the tweeter mounted no more than 1 foot away. Research is a funny thing. All it takes is to send one e-mail to a manufacturer.

Not properly planning and designing a system can ruin the whole experience.

I'd really prefer to be able to put these in stock location. I don't want to have to put these in kick panels and find accomodations for the tweeters if I can buy some spacers and make pretty much any other options fit in the doors.

I understand that sound quality will depend heavily on installation - again, I've heard the Kappa 6.1's more than a few times. My one friend custom installed them in his G35 Coupe. Head unit, 100w amp, two 10" JL subs, dynamat all over the place... Thing should have been a beast. Yet the speakers couldn't keep up with the sub and the tweeters got a little harsh.

Again, not saying that there's anything wrong with those speakers. But given my experiences, the things I've read, and the things guys are saying here, my mind hasn't changed on them.

Still have yet to hear anything bad about Focal. It's between the 165 Polyglass and JL C5 650. I have to wait and see what my budget allows for after Christmas. The Focals might be hard to beat given that they're cheaper than the C5's.

hmmm I hope that isn't necessary. I'm planning to use OEM locations for this set. Hopefully the DSP in my amp will be strong enough to make these speakers shine.

What would you like to know? amazing construction, made in tennesee. Just the design that is behind these is incredible. Its nice to still see a company that really puts everything they have into their product and really respect their craft. Jeep tjs are a bit weird up front with 4x6. But I have the 6 1/2 in the soundbar. I ran them for a couple months off of an inexpensive jvc head unit, that came with the jeep. They are sensative enough that they sound great powered off the heaf unit. I now got around to running off of an old school rockford 4 channel and they are absolute beasts.

I was more so interested in the setup... If you were running a head unit, amp, location of the components, 2-door or 4-door, and whether or not you're using anything in the rear to fill out the rest of the cabin or if the Memphis components are enough by themselves.

Yep, cheap jvc head unit that came in the truck. Initially I was running these speakers off of the hu. The jeep is a two door, locations are in the front dash and in the soundbar mounted to the roll bar, 4 speakers total. Now amplified, but if I did not already own said amplifier, I would be perfectly happy with the performance off of the "crappy" jvc. They would only perform that much better in an insulated sedan.

Exactly what I was looking for, thank you, good sir! I'll have to see if I can find some Memphis Audio components to listen to. Never heard them personally, but if they're anything like you're making them sound then I'm a believer. Hope everyone had a good holiday!

I have Infinity Kappa 6.5 components...they are extremely harsh.

I have done everything I can think of to tone them down but when you do you realize how crappy the midrange on them is.

Though all the equalization I have is the 7 band EQ on my head unit, the amp's adjustment settings for gain/boost and the -6db switch on the crossovers for the tweeters. I wonder if a dedicated equalizer would help but probably not...will switch to Alpine Type-R or MB Quart within a year (will need to listen to them and others first). My fatal mistake was buying them from Crutchfield versus listening to them in store first (or better in car). I had Inifinty Reference coaxials in an old car and thought they were nice so expected the Kappas to be better.

Been running Focal K2P's in the front and Focal KF's in the rear for about 4 years. They have always sounded incredible to me. Super clean and can get loud as hell.
