I'm running some Image Dynamic 6.5 all around and get good bass and high response from them. They are running off a Alpine PDX F4.

No I know I definitely won't be spending that kind of money on the Kappas. The whole point of this was really to get a feel for what people like, the different setups, experiences / advice / opinions, whatever. So all of these responses have seriously helped me out in that regard.
I've been making a better effort to get out and listen to as many of these as I can... Don't think that I've heard anything that comes close to comparing to the JL C5 650s, so I think that's what I'm going to do after Christmas when I finally get my expenditures back under control again. The holidays always suck when you're itching to buy parts for your car |

I just put some memphis audio m series in my wrangler...amazing. If memphis keeps this up, im in for life. I used to work in mobile electronics and was an mb quart junkie until they sold off, now they are just your everyday garbage.

No bass? Incorrect. Tuned and set up properly, they are a great set of speakers. NOT tuned and set up properly, junk/garbage, as you say. This is not a personal attack. Just defending the speakers. |

I had CDT components in my last car run off of a JL Audio 5 channel amp, they were great sounding speakers.
Currently I am running a Pioneer AVH8400P head unit, with Focal K2 Power 165K2P-UV 6.5" components in the front. The I run CDT Audio M6 Mid-Bass/Sub-Bass Drivers for mid bass support. A 10" Morel Ultimo Sub in a custom enclosure rounds out my speaker selection. For amplification I went with a JL Audio MDH900/5. This system sounds great but costs a bundle. |

Not properly planning and designing a system can ruin the whole experience. Last edited by Lurch33; 12-23-2012 at 07:26 AM. |

I understand that sound quality will depend heavily on installation - again, I've heard the Kappa 6.1's more than a few times. My one friend custom installed them in his G35 Coupe. Head unit, 100w amp, two 10" JL subs, dynamat all over the place... Thing should have been a beast. Yet the speakers couldn't keep up with the sub and the tweeters got a little harsh. Again, not saying that there's anything wrong with those speakers. But given my experiences, the things I've read, and the things guys are saying here, my mind hasn't changed on them. |

Still have yet to hear anything bad about Focal. It's between the 165 Polyglass and JL C5 650. I have to wait and see what my budget allows for after Christmas. The Focals might be hard to beat given that they're cheaper than the C5's.

C5's are my vote hands down.. I got a set second hand from a buddy and can't say a bad thing about them.. I install for a living so I've heard a few sets in my day.. you won't be disappointed.

Yeah they're unbelievable. Just have to wait and see what kind of money I'll be able to drop after the holidays.

What would you like to know? amazing construction, made in tennesee. Just the design that is behind these is incredible. Its nice to still see a company that really puts everything they have into their product and really respect their craft. Jeep tjs are a bit weird up front with 4x6. But I have the 6 1/2 in the soundbar. I ran them for a couple months off of an inexpensive jvc head unit, that came with the jeep. They are sensative enough that they sound great powered off the heaf unit. I now got around to running off of an old school rockford 4 channel and they are absolute beasts.

Yep, cheap jvc head unit that came in the truck. Initially I was running these speakers off of the hu. The jeep is a two door, locations are in the front dash and in the soundbar mounted to the roll bar, 4 speakers total. Now amplified, but if I did not already own said amplifier, I would be perfectly happy with the performance off of the "crappy" jvc. They would only perform that much better in an insulated sedan.

I have Infinity Kappa 6.5 components...they are extremely harsh.
I have done everything I can think of to tone them down but when you do you realize how crappy the midrange on them is. Though all the equalization I have is the 7 band EQ on my head unit, the amp's adjustment settings for gain/boost and the -6db switch on the crossovers for the tweeters. I wonder if a dedicated equalizer would help but probably not...will switch to Alpine Type-R or MB Quart within a year (will need to listen to them and others first). My fatal mistake was buying them from Crutchfield versus listening to them in store first (or better in car). I had Inifinty Reference coaxials in an old car and thought they were nice so expected the Kappas to be better. |

Been running Focal K2P's in the front and Focal KF's in the rear for about 4 years. They have always sounded incredible to me. Super clean and can get loud as hell.
