Default Are these gauges crap?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...162155409&rd=1

im new to the whole buying gauges thing, never needed them on my trucks......

if they arent crap what 3 gauges do you think i should buy? i have the subaru boost gauge on my steering column, but its in the mpa format so i really have to clue what im seeing... lol

so i think one i want would be a the boost guage in PSI, and also the air/fuel ratio... unless there are others that are needed a bit more!

thanks for your help guys i appreciate it...

and also thanks for not yelling at me for my newbi-ness.. haha

a/f means nothing for our cars unless its wideband...the other gauges from what i've read are crap as well. I dont know why people think that straight up a/f gauges (narrow band) will work on our cars. Stick to a known brand like prosport or defi....etc.

yeah any non wideband A/F is completely and totally worthless in our cars.

Really for tuning, they are useless in any car. It just gives you no usefull information.

Let me break it down for you.

If you are in boost, and it isnt fully pegged rich, you are too lean. Those gauges read full rich as lean as 12.5-1 and you dont want to be anywhere near that lean under full boost.
But guess what, it can be pegged at full rich, and you are STILL dangerously lean. Like I said, 12.5-1 will read full rich, and that is too lean.

The only time they are of any use is idle and cruise down the highway. Other than that, they are useless.

i have 3 glowshift gauges on my pillar, in an autometer pod. boost oil pressure and egt. they've worked just fine for the last 2 years. or if you want you can buy a name brand boost gauge and maybe an oil pressure gauge for the same price

p.s. dont get the tinted gauges (i have them and i cant see them worth crap during the day. in alaska that means nothing in the summer months with 24 hour daylight)

yep, same here... I had to gut the gauges to remove the glass from the front, which fixed the daylight problem. also means they are insanely bright at night!

I'm running Glowshift gauges. For the price they are excellent. Looks great, accurate, cheap. I just wish the boost was electronic but small price to pay.

Oh and +1 for not getting the tinted gauges, I dont have them but I've always heard they are hard to see in the day.

Like I said in that thread the only complaint I have is that the 3 gauge pod where the clock goes isn't the greatest quality and it is a major pita to get it to line up so you can bolt it down. Other than that I have had absolutely no problems and they are very accurate comparing them to my values in enginuity. I use an innovate LC-1 for my afr gauge and logging. Its hard enough to read the non tinted gauges in the daytime +1 for not getting them.

boost, egt, oil pressure or temp (i prefer pressure cause i'd rather know if i have oil at all versus whether or not it's warm)

Take a small screwdriver and slowly start working the edge of the bezel up until you can finally pull it off. the glass more or less falls out at that point. Then just put the bezel back on and crimp it down some. I ended up buying the 7 color non-tinted glowshift gauges though, they were just too bright at night and I didn't feel like rigging up a killswitch. (the dimmer never seemed to do much, they were just slightly dimmer)
