Isn't it meant to shield the heat from the filter?

with the stock intake attached to it, the triangle piece that connects to the grill, it's supposed to funnel the air in, and then the top and the box itself are supposed to keep the air from going anywhere so that it's concentrated through the intake, but the indirect result is it gets freaking hot in there, the box is still good for trapping the air, but if you take the top off it'll give it room to vent the hot air out.

I actually layed the Di-noc over the acrylic, and then put it in a laser cutter, cutting them both together.

So i made my own way to mount it up in my forester and pretty satisfied for how cheapp it was. 4 eyelets 39 cents each and 2 bungee cords $2 each.
DUDE! this is awesome! very clever.

Hope this counts, For my COBB SF intake box, i was really board with the plain look of it, and wanted something a bit more "custom". So i made a template of the top lid, and got to work in Illustrator. I made a custom panel and cut it out of acrylic, and finished it with 3M di-noc CF. Please disregard the blue, It is the rear protective film keeping the back from getting scratched.

As a finishing touch i will be frosting the rear of the COBB logo and potential mounting an LED panel behind it. Stay tuned for install pics and for my custom center console .
super cool. cant wait to see the results!

Here's a little something we whipped up today... Can anyone guess where that goes?... The engraving is the name of a car club that a friend of mine is trying to start up. I'd say this is a good way to advertise haha.

What do y'all think?

lol sorry i was trying to describe it from memory. Basically it traps hot air in, remove the top it will breathe easier, otherwise you could pull timing and run hot as confirmed on multiple cars running it during tuning, sry if I describe poorly.

HOWEVER i do like that clear cover it's pretty sexy, maybe make one out of very large Mesh instead might be a great idea.

Could he possibly drill/cut holes to vent but in such a way to block most engine heat the would be pushed towards it but at the same time release the hot air build up? At speed of course. Also he would have to be drawing from somewhere with more air pressure than the engine bay, but with colder air, so if a vortex could be created in the fender well..?

I'm just throwing out thoughts. I am probably completely wrong. If I weren't on the phone I would try and draw up a design to help explain my thought process.

are you thinking more of a louver system on top to pull the air out of the box?

sounds like you'd be describing louvers facing rearward on the lid to help air come out of the box, which would probably work since the air is flowing in through the stock intake triangle piece, you'd have to do some testing with data to see any change.
