I haz teh bed gramers

Default I need your help to test a knock sensor !!!

I'm having trouble determining if my knock sensor is working properly. So I need someone to try something for me.

If you have ST, tap the block next to the sensor and see if you register knock.
If you don't have ST, tap it and see if the engine idle retards for a second or so.

When I tap mine, nothing happens. I'm not sure if that's cus it's broken or if the subaru has the type of sensor that filters out certain frequencies and unless I tap at the right frequency, it won't register.

I'm getting knock at idle, but the ecu isn't pulling timing, but that's cus the DA table is set to 0 at that load/rpm combo.

To make a long story short, I'd like to be somewhat confident that my sensor isn't borked before I continue tuning.

Big advanced thanks to anyone that can help me out!

my ST does the same knock at idle thing. i think it's a glitch in the software. maybe call cobb and ask them. i know others have the same knock at idle.

I've heard that, so I'm not too worried. I'm more concerned that it doesn't pick up knock when I tap the block.

But I'm not sure it supposed to. I've heard that if you tap the block, the car should pull timing and you should register the knock.

But

I've also read that the stock sensor is smart enough to know it's not real knock (The vibrations produced by tapping the block aren't the same frequency as knock).

So if someone who never had problems with thier tune / timing / knock sensor taps the block and sees knock, then my sensor is pooped. If they don't register the knock, then I can assume my sensor is fine.

Well if you can get ahold of a vantage meeter that would be the best, but you should be fine with a multi meeter. Probe the signal wire and attatch the postive lead to it. The negitive should go to a known good ground aka negative battery terminal...I think. Then tap your block, you should get voltage when you hit the block.
