I have to say, I like the track, lots of overtaking, turn one (fill hill), the semi-bolica four apex turn, the sssss's, Hokenheim'ish hairpin, long strait where DRS makes a huge difference, lots of elevation change. Spa is still my favorite (eau rouge, really, nothing better), but this is one hell of a track, Tilka's best work I think. Aussi 8's should be fun there. I might even watch a NASCAR race if they had it there.

It was made from the 'fill' they ended up with from having to dig the entire track 9 ft down to the lay the bottom of the track bed, they made the hill much higher with all the fill and thus the name 'fill hill', not named after Phil Hill the only american born person to win a F1 championship, ty for playing though.

I would not be surprised it it becomes 'Phil hill' as I am sure it will become an iconic turn on an american track so the historic reference works well, but the guys making the track named it fill hill for the reasons stated.

Edit: before someone mentions it, yes Mario also won a world drivers championship as an american, but he was born in a town in Italy, which after WWII became a town in Yugoslavia and now is a town of a different name in Croatia.

Great race, looked like a massive crowd with lots of good places to see the action. Really impressed with Massa as well, he did a great job. Button, not as much but at least he improved. Great job Hammy.

What did Vettel complain about when he was passed? I could't make it out it was so whiny.

I think he was bitching about a back marker not getting out of his way:

I thought he was whining about the effect of DRS when Hamilton blew his doors off, something he rarely sees in use as he tends to get and stay more than one second ahead.

Edit: for reasons of children I did not get to view the ceremony until now, the pirelli stetsons made me vomit in my mouth a little.

Well a lot of Europeans think America is filled with cowboys so they love the cowboy hats. The Texans sitting around me all loved it too.

The race was amazing! The line to get to the buses to leave, not so much.

My first F1 experience in person and I'll do everything I can to be back next year.

I thought the hats were awesome, silly and way better looking than the 80's style trucker hats they nomaly wear.

After years of waiting, Formula One racing is finally back in the United States, and while most drivers were focused on getting ready for the all-new Circuit of the Americas track, two of the sport's most popular drivers were involved in off-track distractions due to their helmet designs. For different reasons, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel were both forced to make changes to their helmets before qualifying for the US Grand Prix according to Total F1.

USGP polesitter and season points leader Vettel's helmet had the words "gives you wings" written on the top of his helmet, which, as the motto for his Red Bull sponsor, goes against a Bernie Ecclestone rule that forbids advertising on top of racers' helmets. Total F1 says that this rule was made so as not to ruin the on-board camera view from above the driver.

Hamilton, on the other hand, was forced to alter his helmet due to the letters "H.A.M." painted on the back. While a casual observer might think this has something to do with his last name, these letters are actually an acronym for "hard as a mother******" which goes against the FIA's no-swearing policy. Both helmets were easily fixed with a little cover-up tape.

I was real pleased with the race and just about everything at the track. Honestly, I found the lines for the shuttles to be pretty decent given the amount of people they were moving and the fact that it was the first race. My total transport costs for fri-sun was $5 in bus fare, I only really stood still in the bus queues on Friday and the shuttles had no traffic in or out all weekend. It took us far longer to walk to the train station and board a train in Monaco than it did here, so not a bad job at all.

The food and merchandise lines where another story, as either took over an hour and you never knew if the credit card machines would be working when you did eventually get served. I failed at all my attempts to buy any souvenirs.

Turns 12 and 15 seemed to be the best sections to really see overtaking, though I haven't seen the tv feed of the race yet, aside from what I could see of the monitor from my seat. I was pleasantly surprised that the cell data signal stayed up all race and let me view live timing on my phone, that made the experience much more enjoyable.

Now I just need to not die from a BBQ overdose and I'll be good.

Well apparently he wouldn't be surprised if sometime in the future someone might dub it Phil Hill...except they already have! Unofficially of course.

Had a blast from Turn 11. Long lines for any grub meant we started packing lunches and stuffing them into the camera bag. The track is great, just needs more grass to grow. The dust was stifling. No FM radio broadcast, so we hit Radio Shack and split the Kangaroo Fanvision monitor off to feed 4 pairs of headphones. The spaghetti of cables was hilarious, but very effective. The shuttles worked great until gridlock on Sunday around 4pm. We stood for 45 minutes and moved 50 feet in a 200 yard long line to a shuttle. Opted to walk the 2.8 miles back to our Lot Q rental car, but ended up flagging a local guy in a pimped out Dodge Durango and paid him $10/head to drive us there. He was floored and us too. It was easily a 4 hour wait for a 1 hour walk.

Track needs about 3x as many food trucks, and souvenir shops. They should also open up the track for people to cross from one side to the other. The wait to get across the back to back bridges took hours. Let some grass grow, add in more to service the patrons and it's a top notch event. I did like they made over night corrections each day to help improve the circuit experience and that made me feel like they were trying to improve it.

Great race too. Glad the title is still up for grabs with 1 race to go.

Great race, Turn 12 was great. Lots of action, great view of everything, close to exits and good food trucks.

Besides some bad cattle pen setups that didn't disperse people very well getting into the buses, and stupidly long lines for food/COTA merchandise it was great.

My comments will certainly be echo'ed by others, as will my praises. Our allstar plays let us get on the shuttles and be back in downtown austin by like 4:15 on Sunday. Can't imagine what it was like for people that stayed longer or weren't so quick getting out.

Great great great, I applaud all the efforts by everyone involved.

My best friend was in the Turn 12 stands as well, and he was back in north San Antonio by 5 PM! He had a blast.

I still haven't been able to watch the race yet.

Yep I agree on all accounts. What section of turn 12 where you in? I was in 7. Great view of a great race.

We waited a bit too long to go to the bus for the expo and had to wait an hour. When I got on the bus I saw that the line had grown all the way back to the gates at the track glad we didnt wait any longer. I bet some of those people had to wait 2 hrs + to get out of there. Hopefully next year they have that figured out a little better.
