I've got the Tein Soft & AGX combo. I'm running the AGX's at 3/6 and the ride is much stiffer than stock but not bouncy or uncomfortable. The car feels quite planted & stable on the road. This combp lowered the car about 1.25" all around. I am very satisfied with the setup, both on the street and on the auto-x circuit.

I am also running Tein Soft with KYB agx's. I have removed all the rubber spring seats for a drop of about 1.6". I absolutely love the setup; not too harsh, but incredible control.

AliBenn - From what I understand, Tein makes three springs for the Impreza; OEM Spring (same ride height as stock), Soft & Medium(both lower approx. 30mm [1.25"]). The way Zen Motorsports (Tein Distributor) explained it to me was the Soft springs were a "street" performance spring and the Medium springs were a "track" performance spring. The Soft are designed to perform well and preserve the drivability of the car everyday. The Medium are designed for competition use not everyday driving. I was told that the medium would be very uncomfortable on the street. So I guess it depends on how "harsh" of a ride you can tolerate day-to-day.
I believe that Imprezer can get good prices on these springs for us too! [This message has been edited by Opie (edited December 29, 2000).] |

I would recommend the soft springs for anything resembling a daily driver. From what I heard, the med springs can produce wheel skip on uneven surfaces. The soft springs with the agx struts can produce a very stiff ride.
Places to guy: JC Sports, Zen Motorsports (do a search for contact info), TRi Tuning, and others I am sure. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/Foru...ML/000259.html |

I figure I'll try to post a pic, since I've got this setup. KYB AGX/TEIN-Soft from JC Sports since August. So far, I love them.

HydeX,
Buy my Tein S-Tech "soft" springs? Please? I love these springs with my KYB AGX struts, as they are a phenomenal combination at the autocross and race track. I have a sedan, and they lower the sedan in the rear more than they do on the 2 doors, so I scrape my turbo downpipe on my steep driveway when I try to enter the garage. I have a 20% grade on the driveway, and when I enter the flat garage I high center on the exhaust. I also bought the WRONG wheels to racing/autocrossing, with the wrong offset - so the rear tires rub when I tried out the new wheels today. The stock wheels with 205/55x16 fit inside the wheel well great, but the race wheels stick out so far that the tire is a whopping 2" away from touching the strut, instead of the usual 1/2" and I'm gouging the tire on the fender!! I have to go back to stock springs. They normally sell for $225 plus shipping - $240 a set - I would sell them for $199 shipped. I just got them in september, and can take them off next weekend if you want them. Larry www.ImprezaRS.com |

My stromung and 2.25" midpipe did not scrape, it is the turbo exhaust that does. I have a wierd driveway, 20% grade over 30 feet, and then it suddenly flattens out at a sharp angle. I don't think You'd have a problem.

You will most definately have a scraping problem with the N1. It is not tucked up tight like the Stromung.

Opie - What is the deal with the OEM springs? Do you know what rates they use? I want to get some performance struts and springs, but I don't want to drop my car much, if at all - maybe 0.5" or so.
Thanks, Pat Olsen '97 Legacy 2.5GT sedan |

I have a custom bent 2.25" midpipe with an Apex'i N1 na muffler and I do not have any scraping problems with that. I have run into driveways where I have scraped my bumper, but thats it.

AliBen - sure I'll sell them to you. I hate to sell them since the car handles so well. If you don't believe me, ask burninrubber or PunkRS:

Went to lunch with Larry Ganz (ImprezaRS dot com) today and got a ride in his 2000 RS turbo. After riding in his car I can honestly say that forced induction is the only way to go. It feels like it has twice the power of my N/A 2000 RS. The acceleration is really awesome after 2,500 rpm. The installation looks great and is real clean. Of course, the ride was even more cool due to Larry's suspension which makes the car really feel like it's on rails. BTW - Larry, please forgive the permanent fingerprints in your dash and I think you better get some new seats! Punk!" http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/Forum1/HTML/016977.html "I'm still giggling!!! I got to go for a ride in Larry's car...at full-bore, tire-balding speed. Aaaannnd....There was Dave's Wagon. Dear Lord, save my checkbook! Screw N/A...Let someone else try it. 5psi in Larry's car was a blast, but 15psi in the 2.2 AWD wagon was just unbelieveable. Larry's car was just a wonder in the corners. His driving made you hang on for dear life, too.(Poke, poke . The wagon took YOU for the ride, though! Wow... Dave started off at 10psi for a few laps, and then up to 15psi for a few more laps. I had to hang on more, but I was laughing sadisticly the whole time! That ride rocked! Nobody was running coilovers, though. I want a set! I gotta stop. You can read my grin by now . Don't get me wrong, your's cornered like a dream. But it ain't 15psi! I'm still partial to hard cornering, though. To think that coilovers could be pushed further than what your car did is veeerryy scary. Especially coupled with something like Dave's turbo. It was the biggest IHI on the shelf! But if my all motor buildup will only ever be as fast as your's is now, then no it isn't worth it. Bring on the boost, baby! There's even a ball bearing option of the wagon's turbo. It could still go faster! Despite all this jabbering, I'm still kinda speechless after those two rides. Patrick Olsen - I'm not sure what the spring rates are on Tein's OEM springs. I was told that they were identical to the stock springs. I believe that Tein makes the factory springs for Subaru (I might be wrong though) so I figured that was what they were.
