Just got a '12 Sport Premium, 5MT. On a long highway stretch of interstate and local 2-lane highways over 350 miles the computer gave me a 34 MPG average. Using cruise control when possible definitely helps.

I didnt verify the computer MPG when I filled up at the pump. Have people found it to be relatively accurate?

@Twism86:

No, there is endless discussion here about how optimistic the computer is. After tracking it for, oh, 15,000 miles, it's about 6% optimistic in my 2012. That is, when I do a hand calculation over that period, that calculation shows lower mpg than the computer. But then, the odometer is about 3% off, too: it shows fewer miles than I've actually traveled. So in the end, the computer calculation is about 3% optimistic. That's about 1 mpg.

By the way, dozens, if not hundreds, of others on this site have reported some close variation to my figures here.

Thanks for the reply. If it only around 1 MPG optimistic that is close enough for me. We aren't building the atom bomb, no need to be so precise.

Yesterday I drove Pittsburgh to Cleveland and back. Averaged 33/44 both ways. 13 Sport with Thule rack and no fairing, using AC the way back. I'll take it.

i agree...and this is coming from someone who is anal retentive. i originally was going to have the dealer recalibrate the computer to account for both, but realized that was a waste of time (going to the dealer). if i really care, i can always mentally take 1mpg off of the reading and that's good enough.

did a stats lecture for my Matlab class today and used my MPG on my car as an example to show correlation between MPG and MPH for each tank. there is actually a pretty strong relationship (r^2 = 0.79). lifetime mileage is 29MPG (all corrected) for mostly suburbia driving and an average speed of 26MPH. that's a few MPG less than i was hoping for when i bought the car, but i'll take it. it's been a solid car thus far and even though it took a while to get used to the CVT (coming from 20 years of driving stick), it does a decent job in the mountains.

The car rolled over 1000 miles a few days ago, all city/hills, and I'm getting just under 25mpg. Average speed is recorded as being 21mph

Taking a 250 mile highway trip this weekend so I'll see how much a difference I get there.

Just completed a 2,273-mile trip with our 2012 Premium hatch with CVT and the stock Subaru aero bar. Mostly highway, and much of that at an average of 75 mph to 77 mph, as we were traveling across northern Colorado, I-80 across Wyoming, and I-84 into Oregon. (Speed limit for almost all of that route is 75 or 80 mph.) Average, hand-calculated, was 30.3 mpg for the entire trip. So, about 31+ mpg when figuring in the 3% odometer error this generation Impreza is known for. Considering the speed and the elevation changes, that's pretty respectable.

A mostly rural-road tank in eastern Oregon produced 34.4 mpg (hand calculated) over 337 miles. That figure would have been higher, too, had we not had an inflatable kayak (deflated, of course, and rolled up to about a 30" diameter) on the roof for 120 of those miles. The route included about 200 miles at 55-65 mph, and the rest was on winding, up-and-down barely-paved back roads (and 10 miles of dirt). It also included a 4,000-foot vertical climb over a winding mountain pass at 30 to 40 mph (with the kayak on top).

The entire 2,273 miles were almost entirely without traffic; only slowdowns resulted from perhaps 60-70 miles of reduced-speed construction zones. Just about ideal driving conditions, in other words. So I consider these figures about the best this particular car can produce.

From what I remember, wasn't PZEV an option on 2012, but did it become standard on 2013-2014?

Sometimes I wish I had the cruise control, but I don't want to screw something up installing it, and a lot of times a dumbass will pull in front of me then slow down even if I was staying out of the way of other traffic. It would be nice for the rare long trip though where I'm out on country roads for hours with no one in sight.

It affects emissions. Blame hippy California.

Sorry, I didn't realize non-PSEV vehicles are the same as big diesels

I think it's ironic that most of our 2.0's are PZEV, yet one of the most common mods is removing the muffler. haha And some have gone catless or just high-flow.

Maybe that's just my dumb humor though.

Removing the muffler isn't going to make it not PZEV...

You must have alot of free time. I have seen your screen name in every 2.0 thread almost consistently.

And I'm aware. It's just funny to me. That's why I threw in the catalytic converter part as well.

I do have a lot of free time when I'm not working, which isn't full time currently. If you could see all the forums I post on, I'd probably have a daily post count of 100+.
