It's not the same.

Upon first glance, they appear to be the same, but the difference is the HID version reflector has a base for a D2R bulb, and the D2R bulb has a paint stripe on the bulb to prevent light from reflecting upward (stripe points down so that light doesn't hit the reflector) and the HID housing also has an auto-leveling motor.

Your HID kit includes an H11 rebased HID bulb that does NOT have the paint stripe and is not 'point-of-light' centered in the reflector, so it will not have the light thrown the right way.

It may be only off by a hair, but that does affect the way light comes out of the reflector.

Bottom line: Reflector housing HIDs have D2R bulbs, and are measured to make sure the light is coming from the reflector correctly. HID bulbs in a halogen bulb reflector WILL CAUSE GLARE (whether minimal or not).
Thank you sir for actually answering the question. This was the answer I was looking for.

Newbie here.

Had the 2013 Sport Limited(fully loaded) since December. First Subaru, but have always wanted one.

-Mesh grill, strake kit, and rear spoiler.

I liked the OEM wheels, but had to make it my own so put on 18X8 Enkei Raijin wheels in gunmetal. Tires are Kumho Ecsta 4X all-season. Already notice that they much quieter than the OEM Yokohamas.

35% tint in the front, 20% in the back, and the tint guy talked me into 15% in the hatch. Just ordered the Subaru front under spoiler so its on the way. Don't like how the mud guards looked so not gonna put them on. Only other thing I will probably do is get the front strut tower brace. Has anyone put one on? The only one that I see available is the flexible Subaru branded one which sounds weird that its "flexible". Anyways on to the pics. Sorry about the crappy iPhone photos. Eventually I'll take better ones.

Oh yeah, I gave the Subie a shave the other day

Looks much cleaner back there now, I left the "Sport" badge on.

Nice mods thus far. Post some pics once you get the front spoiler installed.

Thanks y'all. After reading all the posts I'm thinking of putting on a RSB in addition to the front tower brace. I put one on my previous car and it did make quite a bit of difference in handling. My wife doesn't think we need it, but....

The tires are 235/45/18

I don't need to justify anything. You have no idea what i have or have not installed into my car, your just regurgitating the same HID bs information other people have rambled on about.

That looks fantastic...especially those wheels. I want me some of those... If you are looking for upgrades everything I have read and been told points toward avoiding the strut brace. It does work well (including the "flexible" spt model), but it isn't really necessary and is very expensive. A drop in sway bar off an 08+STI will work wonders apparently (19mm), and costs only 100 bucks with the bushings included. A perrin lightweight crank pulley also supposedly supplies a few more horsepower and torques, better throttle response and helps with bogging at low rpms (another ~100ish upgrade). Less bling bling more vroom vroom. By the looks of that car you don't really need any more bling anyway. Go make her fly!

Oh yeah, I've been asking a ton of people but it seems you are one of the first to try. How does the car perform with the 18" wheels vs the 17? Did you notice any performance differences at all or wheel well clearance issues?

Wow, those rims look sick on your ride man!! I still can't get over how much nicer the Impreza looks in white than any other color. What's the offset on those babies?

BTW, did you lower your car? It looks much lower than stock.

If I wouldn't take such a hit on depreciation, I would drive to the dealership right now and order a '13 SWP and keep my fingers crossed that I'd get one with an engine that didn't drink oil like mine.

Thanks for the info! Appreciate it, although I told myself(and my wife) that I wouldn't go crazy with the mods on this car.... On my previous car('02 Nissan Maxima) I put quite a bit of $$ into it.

Is this the right rsb for my car? And does it come with all the brackets?
http://www.subarugenuineparts.com/pr...oducts_id=1690

Anyways, as for the difference in handling going from 17s to 18s I haven't notice too much difference, actually the biggest difference I've notice is the reduction in noise with the new tires.

The offset on the wheels are 45mm and its not lowered. The 235/45 tires I have on it fill out the wheel wells nicely and haven't had any rubbing issues..yet, although the rear wheels might if I encounter a really big bump, keeping my fingers crossed

Here's another pic before the shave since this is a pic thread.

The rims/tires really do fill the wheel wells nice! I thought for sure that you were lowered a bit. 235 seems a little wide tho. Do you know off hand what the percentage of the over-all diameter difference is over stock?

that wheel/tire setup is about a 5% difference than stock. that is quite a bit bigger. the closest would have been a 225/40-18. that would be pretty much spot on for size compared to stock.

Yeah, 5% is quite a bit. I remember reading that if you go over or under by more than 3 percent, you have potential for trouble. Not only will your speedo be off by a good deal, but that much more rotational mass will hurt your acceleration, fuel economy, braking performance and possibly other things.

Personally, I don't think I would go with a tire that big, but it does tight as hell! I hope you don't have any issues like rubbing. Please keep us informed.

Yeah, the overall diameter is just over one inch bigger than the OEM 17s and tires. I haven't noticed any decrease in acceleration(the 2.0 isn't a monster anyways). The speedo, strictly going by the speed radars I've encounter so far, is pretty much spot on still. As for fuel economy and braking, the Enkeis are listed at 20.6lbs(without tires) while the OEM 17s are like 23lbs(without tires) so I'm hoping the lighter weight is a benefit in those areas.

In retrospect I probably should have gone with a 225/40 tire(probably will once I need new tires), but I've got about 1k miles on the new setup and no issues with rubbing(knock on wood). As for the mpg so far I'm only getting about 25mi/gal, but that's mainly city miles and I've only got 2,500mi on the odo so hopefully it improves....

And to the question above about going wider than 235, I wouldn't, the 235/45s I'm running are pretty much flush. Going any wider would probably result in rubbing for sure.

Sorry to say it man but you've already passed the point of not going crazy with mods lol. Keep us posted on how those wheels work out for you, I would be interested in doing something like that to mine in the future.

Those sound like the kind of upgrades that I am looking for. (cheap and easy!)

Do either of those upgrades affect MPG? I have no idea - (newbie question)

The crank pulley has been known to add a few mpg. The tires obviously too, though going any more eco than what is stock and you won't have nearly as much traction as I feel comfortable with. The thicker sway bar is merely there to correct oversteer and lower body roll.
