Took my Legacy autocrossing!
This past sunday I finally got to run the car at NHSCC. I wasn't really expecting much, so PAXing in the top half and finishing anything other than last in HS was doing pretty well.
Off the line i'd manually shift from 1-2, so it really was just like driving a manual. I was pleased with the whiteline front bar as well, the car would hang on in steady state cornering pretty well. The 2.2 sucks, we all know that my car dynoed 80hp. I think if i had a lighter, more powerful 2.5 GT sedan with a 5mt, i'd have done well enough to be a threat. The GT wheels are most excellent, but the blizzaks they came with are not. The blizzaks were properly punished: I'll try to post up some in-car video soon if i can find some hosting.

Auto-x on Blizzaks!! You're a brave man.
Is this your first time auto-xing at all, or just the first time in the Legacy? Either way, good to see someone else out there representin' the Legacy crowd. Pat Olsen '97 Legacy 2.5GT sedan |

I ran on the blizzaks just for fun, but you could tell the exact moment when i wore through the snow tread on the fronts, because the car started to hook up better. My 3rd run was about 3 seconds faster! I just barely got edged out by a guy in a mazda 3, hopefully i'll do a bit better next week. |

That rocks! I am considering taking mine rally-x in May. Never done anything like this, been working crew for a rally team, but want to try my hand behind the wheel for a change.
Need to source a batter tiedown first (mine is strangely missing) |

Just so you guys don't forget, some of us have autocrossed Legacy wagons before:
Also, running winter tires has caused at least one off-course excursion that I know of...into a lightpole. Not a pretty sight. |

A friend had a 2001 2.5 RS coupe with winter tires on it. He was used to running P-Zeros, and was pushing it, hard enough that the car was uncontrollable and hit a parking lot lightpost. Blizzaks probably have better dry pavement traction than whatever he was using
I also had strange reactions, till they heard the exhaust and turbo, and saw that the car was on rails. |

I've autocrossed my current Legacy (a bone-stock 2000GT with crap tires) and a previous Legacy (lightly modded 91 Sport with Falken 512s). Neither did all that great due to the tires and the auto trannies (though the 2000 4EAT is far better than the 1991 4EAT at this), but it was still quite fun.
Normally, I autocross my Street Modified 2.5RS, though. Shane -- SM 729 |

mmm..... can't wait to buy new tires..... I'm hoping to take my car to an auto-x or two. I'll have to look and see if my car still qualifies for stock.

It's good to see another Legacy on the Autox course. They can actually do quite well with a little prep, especially in the wet! I was 2nd overall in the last event last year with my 98 2.2 auto car. for those of you rolling on the floor about now, http://wmclub.org/doc/05event6results.shtml . This was a standing water event, one guy nocked down a cone with the spray off of his front tire and he was at least a foot from the cone.
I'm running FSP with Whiteline sway bars and camber bolts for -2 Deg all the way around. I am consistently beating WRX's with my Legacy In autocross you dont have to beat the car; you only have to beat the driver. Get some good tires and have fun. Brian |
