To the CS who bashed my car with a rock last night (56k eh):
YOU WILL PAY
Woke up this morning to find that someone had decided to make some visual modifications to my car. Whats even more upsetting is that the idiot responsible hit the car at least a dozen times and I can only assume the damage was done with this rock laying not half a foot away from my car Which I assume came from this circle of rocks 5 feet away from my car all of this happened about 75 feet away from my building! I have lived in the same place for three years and have never ever had anything like this happen. I feel like this: and will seek revenge like this: "Sir, we stop selling breakfast at 10:30." "But it is 10:28." I was going to trade this in on an STI this weekend. Talk about a craptacular situation, I wonder how much of a hit im going to take on the trade-in value. Does anyone think I can get this fixed without replacing the door skin?

Most likely it'll be cheaper to replace the door skin.
You could perhaps do it faster and cheaper by going to a junkyard and just pulling a whole door. PS great movie. |

Put on some gloves, bring the rock to your location Police Station and see if they'll dust it for prints.

roffle - ok so if I take the rock to the cops and somehow they manage to lift a print and have a viable suspect what happens does insurance pay for it? I would rather not put the claim on insurance.
Horatio- calling junkyards right now. thanks for the idea |

That sucks.
However, popping those doors off are fairly easy in my experience. Roll the glass down first, open the door, prop the door on a crate or something about the same height as the bottom of the door, unplug the harness, then pull the pins out. It's heavy, so it helps to have someone hold it once you get it off. Lay it down on some cardboard. Reverse to install. |

looks like they tried to break in the window and maybe take something. they were too weak to throw it higher.

Most police depts. aren't going to waste resources on finding a vandal(sucks but true). I had my stereo stolen before and when I asked them if they were going to lift prints, they just looked at me like I was crazy. Unless there is physical harm to a person then forget the prints. BTW that really sucks.

Pretty much what I was thinking. File the police report, just in case the $$ gets too rich for your wallet, and get it fixed. When my jetta was broken into they did about $300 damage to the door ($4 for the plastic, $250 for the lock, some change for the paint on the plastic) and stole my jacket and my digital camera (old). Not worth reporting to the insurance with my $500 deductible. |

I called the police. They said like $500 for having prints lifted and like 3 weeks (yay for the chicago police department they rock!)
Ive called 3 junkyards and no one has my silver color 2001 grand cherokee (its kinda like a pewter color) Im going to maybe go to a paintless dent shop and see what they think but im not holding my breath. The funny thing is i had cleaned it completely out the same day in preperation to trade it in. There is nothing in the car. Ugh this sucks sooo much Edit: CS = **** sucker |

Funny I completely missed the part about it being a WJ. Back in '99 I bought a new Grand laredo, v8, quadra drive, every factory option except the smoker's package and the cd changer. Loved it. Sweet ride. It was platinum. The second v8 '99 grand cherokee laredo that the dealer sold. Some punk threw a beer can at it one night and slightly scratched the window and driver's rear door. He got his though, after coming at me with a tire iron in the parking lot he spent the night in jail. The cops busted him for a bunch of stuff. Poetic justice. You really shouldn't threaten somebody with a tire iron while they've got a 911 operator on the phone. |

don't avoid insurance. this will be covered under comprehensive coverage so whatever you pay out of pocket for your comprehensive deductible is all you'll have to pay. it WILL NOT increase your rates.
ask Mullet Eric SS. Hes knows about these things. there's like laws or somethin. |

Avoid insurance if it's not going to get you anywhere. why deal with the hassle if you've got a $1k comp deductible? (that's what I used to run on my jeep, until I realized it only saved me like $20 every 6. )

good point horatio. my comp deductible is only 240, so just about any damage is better off paid for by insurance. my collision deductible is .... a lot more.

comp deduct for my car is 500 and I really really dont want to put the claim in. I have a good insurance company (USAA) and like only paying 1600 a year for the jeep

that's the point WRX300 - if the trade in value is going to hurt too much, you might be better off paying 500 bucks, and USAA can't alter your rates for the claim. hell, why not just call them and talk about it. if you have a half decent agent, he'll give you good advice.

Its awfully big, but those dent repair guys can work wonders w/o taking the panel off. I would contact one as my first option, and then have his paint contact fix the scratches that are left. It will probably cost you about 450 for both of those services but you would have a like new door when they are done. |
