Default Equal length headers = sound I dont want

Bugeye WRX. purchased today.

Has equal length headers, Perrin up and down pipes. Can I remove the equal lengths and go the other route to achieve the boxer rumble without having to buy all new up and downs?

The down pipe doesn't affect the boxer sound. The up pipe either, unless it is a part of the aftermarket header.

On a separate note, let me know if you want my stock exhaust manifold.

Only issue maybe the header to UP flange. The stock and most unequal headers are two bolt. Many equal length headers are a three bolt. So, make sure you look before you buy a new header to match the UP flange.

Alright, thanks so far.

For your side note, the car came with all the stock parts.

equal length headers are pretty dumb for a daily driver. unequal length not only has that cool sound but also helps with low-end torque.

I thought equal length created alittle more power.

You're right, equal length headers give you more power up top, at the cost of some low-end torque. If you're constantly in the high RPM range, then this is good.

Subaru didn't put the unequal length headers in there for the sound, they have their benefits... low-end torque.

If you want to improve your daily driver and feel like modding the header, you can port and polish the stock headers which will increase your power across the entire RPM range, while still retaining the boxer sound.

Yes, I did, there really wasn't much to read. I just thought that perhaps you'd have more to offer. If you are saying that equal length headers are not desirable on daily driven cars due to lower bottom en torque, then I would have to say that you don't know what you are talking about. A well designed equal length header with good heat retention (heat retention is very important) will give no noticeable decrease in bottom end and great improvements in mid range power.

I simply asked for your rationale.

It's interesting how you just bought the car and the first thing you want to change is the sound lol.

It just makes me feel like I'm driving an inline four when I'm driving a flat. A civic or something.

I hate it.

But, it will need a harmonic balancer asap. Any aftermarket suggestions? I'm most likely going with real oem.

That's interesting that you think it sounds like a honda. My buddy has EL, and his still has a little bit of a rumble. The only time it flattens out a little is in high rpms. Other than that, it sounds the same

Why does it need a harmonic balancer? It never had one when it came from the factory... Do some more research on the car before you start buying.

His flux capacitor must be off, so he needs a harmonic balancer.

Hmm... No harmonic balancer? Really?

I must need new muffler bearings too. And some spark plugs for my cummins. And don't forget track coolant for the track loader.

Trust me, I am no noob when it comes to forums. I've owned many vehicles and worked with all of them.

Call it a crank pulley, vibration damper, your moms face at the front of my EJ20T block spinning so fast I could use her nose and mouth as inlet and outlets and create 483758 pounds of boost. All while ****ing her dead corpse laid out on the trunk.

OP do and get what you want. sound is personal preference. i personally hate the sound of the boxer rumble because its the sound of inefficiency. which is why EL headers add so much power and makes the motor sound like its running on glass and ice instead of 3 cylinders. also why race motors dont use a UEL design. take it off and sell it and pick up an OEM header for cheap, port and polish it if you want.

The thing is, you were wrong in what you called the crank pulley. Ours is not a damper, doofus.
