Default Another Hella 500 question thread OH YEAH!!!

I made some mounts, wired up, and intstalled my hellas today. Aaaannd no light.

I grounded the switch, relay, both lights; connected the hellas, ran that black wire back to the relay, ran the yellow wire to the switch, ran the red wire to the battery, and left off the green wire that the directions say to run from the high beams to the relay because of what I've read on the multiple hella threads about subaru wiring.

If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Sounds alot easier, but I'd like to have them completely independent of my other lights

so.....what keyed source, if not highs, are you using to complete everything. If you use a relay, you need to tap onto the lights, or some other keyed on source....or some other constant 12v if you want them on whenever

It is possible to wire your fogs to run independent of all other light sources, Ive got mine set up that way now

there's gotta be a supply source.. which is kind of like a remote line.. whenever the source you tap from is on, the lights can turn on.. if it's not on, then the lights won't

for instance, i have my stuff sourced from my amp.. so when my stereo is on, the lights can turn on.. so even if my car is on but my stereo is not, my lights won't turn on

hope that's clear lol

I gotcha. So basically just take the green wire that I left out, plug it into the relay, and splice it to, say... the stereo power wire and I'm good to go? As long as the stereo is on?

OK Couldn't find that green wire with the plastic connector in it that was supposed to go to the high beams, but I had another piece of wire laying around and I ran it from the switch, to the stereo power wire. Nothing. Not even a hint of lights. Yes the stereo was on, I flipped the switch several times. What I've got: Both lights, relay, and switch grounded; red wire from relay to battery; black wire from relay to both lights; yellow wire from relay to switch; green wire from switch to stereo power. NO LIGHTS. I've looked at the Diagram and other than substituting stereo power for the high beams, I can't see anything I did wrong.... ????

No I followed this one:

What I did different from your picture was wiring to the stereo power wire instead of the high beams, and I grounded the relay instead of wiring to the negative terminal of the battery. But the diagram I have says to ground the relay.

wow the one you got looks more complicated, i can barely make out what some of that stuff is lol

anyway, there's only 4 wires off the relay.. 2 are for the battery, one is for the power to go into the lights, and the last is the source

maybe if you put the wire that'd be in the neg terminal there, it'd work coz the lights already have wires coming together to ground to the chassis

what do you mean by the wire that would be in the negative terminal? you mean connect the ground wire for the relay to the negative battery?

the one where you said you grounded it instead of putting it in the battery neg.. perhaps it'd work if you'd put it in the battery neg coz the lights already have a ground

basically what i'm saying is have it exactly the way it shows in my diagram aside from the supply source and that should work as that's how i have mine wired

Update: First, I'm an idiot. I found that I had wired the relay to the antenna rather than the power for the stereo. Well I left the relay grounded after I found that out and corrected it. I noticed the relay clicking when I flipped the switch on and off, but no lights. Then I did what you said. I ran the ground for the relay to the negative terminal of the battery. Same thing, relay click, no lights, BUT now my switch is lit up, except in the "on" position, even with the key out of the ignition. So I'm getting somewhere, but still no light. And yes, I'm still going crazy haha

wow your having some issues, i just wired up my hellas today and followed their instructions which i see is a few post up, just follow that, seriously. what i did instead of using the supplied chip to take a signal wire from the head light i used a fuse tap and taped in to the headlights fuse in the engine bay fuse block, so whenever they are on i can turn my fogs on. i didnt ground to the battery, either. i just used ground points that were already used on the car. i guess make sure your grounds are good at this point.

I may have bad grounds for the headlights. I couldn't find anywhere that the headlight ground wires would reach, so I sanded through the paint under the upper rad support brackets, and put dome dielectric grease there and used it as a ground.
